@hitrowboat could you perhaps send me a link to the group?
Hi, everyone I am a current Junior at NCSSM and happy to answer any questions you might have. Also, I highly recommend that you join the facebook page titled NCSSM Classes of 2020 and 2021. Congratulations!!
I got rejected from online and residential program, and i’m in CD9.
I just sent in my appeal/ Hoping for the best!
How!?!?!?
@ncssmclassof2020 Hi, I got into NCSSM Residential and I was wondering what Welcome Day looks like? I know you have to take placement tests and such, but how many are there, and do they determine what classes you can take at NCSSM?
I got in! CD6
I got in! Congrats to everyone. CD8?
Hello! I was wondering if you could send me a link to the facebook page you mentioned.
@AMJ2021
Congratulations on your acceptance!! Welcome day presents you and your parents with information on everything from the dorms to the absence policy all condensed into a couple of meetings. Which can be kind of overwhelming to say the least.
The placement test you will take on welcome day are for mathematics and physical sciences. The language placement test you take online before some spring deadline (sorry, I don’t remember exactly). These placement tests are VERY important. You want to study and do your best on them as your scores will determine what level of course you are placed into. With that said there are opportunities to change your placement at the beginning of the year if it is not a good fit. There is also an option to retake the placement tests in the summer or right after school starts. However, both of those options are a pain and your goal should be to get the placement that fits you the best so that the class is a good fit.
**Also, you want to focus your studying on the math placement tests as that is used in determining your chemistry and physics placements.
These “placements” determine what level of course you end up in (regular year long, slower pace, with topics 2 trimesters, faster pace, or AP which covers way more than a typical ap class). Which placement test you take is based on your current math/physical science class. Basically, if you have never taken calculus you take one test and if you have taken calculus you take another.
Sorry, for the length of this answer it is just a complicated subject to explain succinctly. Let me know if you have any other questions.
@AyaKai @ThaOneDude For those of you wanting to join the Facebook page search “NCSSM Classes of 2020 and 2021” and then join the group with the school and rainbow in the background photo.
hye, does anybody know how many people get onto the waitlist, and my chances of eventually getting accepted through the waitlist.
It varies quite a bit from year to year @AceRed . Last year, they accepted 40 on the waitlist and they indicated 26 got off the waitlist. Some years much less though. Good luck
@ncssmclassof2020, What exactly is covered on the calculus-based placement test and physical sciences test? Is it AP Calculus BC and below or does it include Multivariable Calculus as well? What about statistics?
What is the atmosphere/environment like over there? Is it socially active, reclusive, how would you describe the interactions with other people there?
Sorry for sounding so interrogative.
What types of placement tests are were required to take on welcome day? Is the whole math placement test calculator active?
@ncssmclassof2020 Hey, I just got accepted into NCSSM. I was wondering if the welcome day math test is multiple choice and will be allowed to use our calculators on the whole test? Thanks!
I’m looking for current or NCSSM alumni who can possibly help my son this summer for his essay editing. He just needs a third eye to give feedback on his essays. Anyone out there who can spare some time ?
I had question about SAT . I took my SAT last month in 8’grade and scored a 1550. Will NCSSM consider this SAT scores?
Pretty sure they will not accept it. They indicate what you can submit on their website.
Great score though, congrats!
Hi, I’m a rising sophomore applying to NCSSM Residential and Online (don’t really want to do Residential though so I might just do Online) for the Class of 2022, and I was wondering if any of you could give me your opinion on what my chances of being admitted are being like. I made a post like this on this thread already but a lot of it has changed so I want to update it. Thanks in advance
GENERAL INFO
Congressional District: 9
School Size (number of students): ~1350
Size of Your Grade (number of students): 429
Your Rank (if any): 1/429 (it says 3 on my transcript but I strongly believe it’s a three-way tie for 1st)
School: Weddington High
TESTING
SAT (breakdown): Taking in August; I’m currently consistently scoring 1550-1590 on practice tests (my most recent one from last week was a 1590, with an 800 in math and a 790 in EBRW) so I can expect a similar score on the real thing
ACT (breakdown): Probably won’t take unless I don’t get a good enough score on the SAT
PSAT (breakdown): n/a)
AP: Took AP World History, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Calculus AB (self-study), and AP Psychology (self-study) this year; expecting either a 5 on all of them or 5s and a 4 on AP World History (I get back my scores this week)
SAT Subject Tests: Took SAT Math Level 2 in June, expecting an 800
School’s Average SAT Score: Niche says it’s a 1250 but this is probably higher than the real average because this data is acquired through voluntary response sampling (so it’s likely to be biased significantly)
