[Congratulations J!] :D

U know what happened w/ me right? NOt even one of those yet: non-finalist, wait-finalist or finalist! It's SO PAINFUL to actually wait till Monday/Tuesday for the ultimate result :(
By the way, seems like u r REALLY interested already? Don't worry abt it too much! Just take care of the SAT next year! (but that's next year right?) And I'm sure u can make it in easily! After all, a 9th Grader taking PreCal===that's astounding to me!

my guy friend is a math genius
and he finished algebra, geometry, algebra 2
and is in pre-cal.
and guess wat?
hes in 8th grade :)

That's quite impressive, ssg. :)

Chaos, if I may, when did you finish Algebra 1, geometry, Algebra II, Precal, Calc AB, Calc BC (last week?)? Just curious to know how you've become so accomplished in math.

LOL! Seems like this thread changed its course to something like: Chaos, the wonder Theory, the theory that's more advanced than even the 'advancer' theories! (lol!) :D

1900, 3.92, various Science/Math awards. Non-finalist. On to CC....
Good luck to the rest of you!

I got in... cool. Who else is going? Here were my stats:

Sat: 2020
GPA: 4.67 (Weighted), 4 (Unweighted)
Extracurriculars: Science Olympiad, Beta Club, Brain Games, and many others.
Math Level: Passed PreCalculus with a 100% Average (Perfect Final! WOOT!)
Science: A's in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Earth Science (All Honors)

I don't know if I'm going though... I really want to, but my mom is hesitant at boarding school.

hmmm
can someone explain to me what NCSSM is?
thanks :)

The North Carolina School of Science and Math (NCSSM) is a boarding school for high school juniors and seniors. You have to be a resident of North Carolina. I heard that it is very selective, especially if you live in a educationally well off district.

ncssm.edu.............that's the website address....(duh, one can google it in a second, but still I felt like giving it!)

I have been ACCEPTED! yay!!! :D

So, as far as I know only two CCer: me and Didnotfaillife, I thought there would be more than that!

there is also a great north carolina school of the arts. my daughter was accepted as an out of state applicant in music for college.

Congratulations asifkhan! And give Chaos some tips on strengthening his application!

Thank you! Chaos is a lot smarter dude than me, and I doubt it whether he needs any tips! Definitely, if he ever asks for any tips, I will try my best to give the best advice from my experiences, after all, I've possibly asked every important questions all thru this acadmic year to the admission committeer! (starting from last summer actually!)

By the way, r u related to Chaos?

No relation. But I know he is very interested in this school.

Oh, okay, I'll definitely help him! By the way, I'm trying to help myself on how to celebrate it! I REALLY worked hard for it, I did EVRYTHING possible to polish my application, and I'd be so happy to inform CT abt things, he wanna know! :)

I'm finally going to a place where there'd be astrophysics classes!

CONGRATULATIONS!

I knew it! :) I think I have harnessed my future-predicting powers quite well.

What classes will you be taking next year? I presume that you've talked with J [Didnotfaillife] about scheduling already. You're going to have a wonderful time, I can tell. You seem to be the kind of person who would thrive in the NCSSM environment, asif. You take a look at some people you just know how things are going to turn out for them. :)

Burb Parent, J and Asifkhan are helping me. :D I often talk with them both. I think that through next year as they attend and experience the school, they will be able to give more mature advice to me and others who are applying to NCSSM. At the moment, the can only offer their experience as applicants.

Congratulations again, Asif. Congratulations as well to shayon and J.

Snowinginc - You seem to be a wonderful applicant. Sometimes, there is no rational reason why they will reject an applicant. With statistics like those you posted, I highly doubt that you were rejected because they thought you weren't "good enough." There are several other uncontrollable factors involved, like location and diversity. These factors are taken into account and unfortunately for some people (who are amazing applicants who would thrive at the school), these factors can contribute negatively towards the application.

Nevertheless, you are still Pwn4g3, with a capital P. NCSSM didn't reject you. You rejected NCSSM. ;)

OMG! who would tell that Chaos Theory is a high school freshman? If I didn't saw his username, I'd have surely thought the poster as a parent! Very inspirational and realistic!
I haven't yet thought abt taking classes, I just received the result today morning! I do have a lot to talk w/ didnotfailife (summer service, schedule, **evrything!)

Snowinginc, as I acknowledged in PM b4, ur words have been SUCH A GREAT HELP TO ME for last two days which seemed SO LONG! Thanks again for that, and trust me, I'm sure almost 75% of the applicants ARE eligible for NCSSM it's just that those other small things can make such big differences! I know a friend of mine, whose application looked no worse than mine, but it's just that he had a little bit less GPA and SAT (who knows, those small differences could've declared him as 'non-finalist' which seemed to me not so fair!) anyways, just don't feel rejected bcoz they didn't take u, since they just can't take the smartest of the smartest (or the best of the applicants) due to the quota system from evry Congressional Districts, along w/ a certain proportion races and gender---when all these things r taken into account (and the things that ChaosTheory said,) some highly academically and socially prepared applicants face the unlucky 'rejection' :(
CT, thanks again for ur congratulation! (I'm overwhelmed w/ the amount of forms I've to fill right now! the laptop cost is simply CRAZY! I might wanna talk w/ u abt the laptop stuff soon :))

CHAOS, clear ur PM dude!

Chaos, just write an awesome application essay. I swear thats how I got in. Haha, opening up with racist statements sure do catch their attention but it worked, I suppose. :)

I think that they're looking for scores as well as raw potential. I just played off the factor that I'm motivated enough in one subject (thats not even offered at my regular school) and did enough self studying to compete in it...

Edit: Fine. I got your PM CT. Imposing your will on me much?

Stats:
GPA 4.5 W/ 3.9 UW (Haha, B in world history. Never liked history much.)
SAT 700v 660m 580w
ECs: Science club (so my school sucks..), math club (lol.), tons of volunteering, lots of programming stuff, track, student government

Oh, and I think that if you apply to the summer programs (SVSM, RECAP) it boosts your application.
