ND arts

I'm interested in applying for ND this next school year. But I'm wondering about the arts program that Notre Dame offers - there seems to be much more of an emphasis on sports than on other extracurriculars, such as the arts. I myself am not unathletic; I would like to participate in some intramurals while I'm in college. But throughout high school, I've been much more involved in music, art, and theater than I have been in sports, and while I enjoy sports my interest level is much higher in the area of the arts. So I'm wondering, how much of a presence do the arts have on campus? (and I want more than just the marching band!)

The DeBartolo Performing Arts Center (located south of the stadium) is always putting on musical performances, theatrical productions, movie screenings, and other artistic offerings. I would strongly recommend checking out Notre Dame’s website, It describes the many programs available at the University in finer detail.

Hi! I’m a current rising sophomore at ND! I never played sports in high school and wasn’t particularly interested in them. I’ve never felt out of place at all here. I’m really involved in the arts (both in high school and now at ND). I am in Celebration Choir (a liturgical/community service choir) and Dance Company. I also was in a French play last semester. There are several different theater companies, dance companies, acapella groups, choirs, creative writing groups, and orchestra/bands. If you look through the pages for arts clubs at ND you can get an idea of what it is like. One of the great things is that each arts clubs has different time commitments so you can totally invest your time in one, or do several. Also, it’s a long way off, but your freshman year you can take a class called “First Year Experience in the Arts” which I very much recommend. You get to sample everything offered on campus in form of the arts offered at ND and see some great performances and galleries on campus! Hopefully this isn’t too long- let me know if you have questions. A lot depends on what kind of arts you are interested in.

Thanks guys! That was really helpful :)
