I was accepted into ND early action and considering it as my top option for where to attend next fall. I received a financial aid offer that would make me pay near full-cost to attend next year which is just not realistic at all for me if I would like to attend. ND is my top option, does anyone know of anything i can do?
Have you tried appealing the financial aid already?
As far as I can tell, I can only appeal it due to a change in circumstance and that is not really the case. I just can’t afford it, so I’m a bit lost.
The financial aid people are really nice. I sent an appeal. Unfortunately, it didn’t pan out for me, but it was clear from their response that they revisited my file and made a good effort to see if something would work out. Maybe it will for you. Give it a try.
@pv2018abc I agree with 4family4. The staff in the Financial Aid department are very nice and willing to work with you. I appealed, as a parent, before my son started. They reviewed my file and increased the aid. The increase brought my out-of-pocket to my EFC. My DS maxes out his Federal student loans and I pay the EFC amount. Are your parents willing/able to do that? Beyond that, at this stage of the game it will be tough to get other resources.
Caution - mini rant that may not apply to your situation
Many parents don’t realize that their income drives financial aid package. I am always surprised when higher net-worth parents are not willing to help children out when they are the reason there is little or no financial aid offered. Sorry, mini rant over.
