ND Vision

So, for those of you who've heard about NDVision, or other summer programs at Notre Dame, does it have a positive effect on admission?

It's not the reason I'm going, I'm just curious as to whether summer program participants are more likely to be admitted to the universities, Notre Dame or in general.

Hey mose,

I went on NDVision 2007 before my senior year…it was such a great experience. Unfortunately, it didn’t help me get in freshman year, but that doesn’t mean it definitely wouldn’t help anyone. Good luck and have fun!

I believe that it does, especially if you can make some connections with some faculty/admissions. it certainly can’t hurt. the following is another thread on the ND forum, but I am not sure if it pertains to ND Vision, but I know it deals with ND summer course for high schoolers, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-notre-dame/728657-any-global-issues-seminar-graduates.html.

In my opinion, attending a summer program indicates interest. It will not be a big play in the admissions decision.

My daughter attended the summer scholars program a few years ago. She applied to ND with an outstanding GPA full of AP and honors classes, with a 32 on the ACT. She was extremely involved in high school with lots of service and leadership. Also, she was at the 5th percentile in the senior class. She was waitlisted. (No legacy, minority status, etc.)

Eventually, she got off the waitlist and is now to be a junior at ND. Looking back, I do not believe her attendance at the summer program had much to do with the decision.

I believe about 1200 attend ND vision each summer, as well as about 250 summer scholars. There are some other programs as well. It is my belief that there are way too many students going through those summer programs to make much of a difference in an admissions decision. At best, it is a very small enhancement to what has to be an outstanding application. Good luck!

^and interest is important if you get on the waitlist, so it may help people on the waitlist

Simply attending a summer program will not better your chances of acceptance to Notre Dame. I was in a meeting with the director of admissions and a few other students during a summer program q and a. Somebody asked if attending a summer program provides any benefit and he said that it does not. He said that it helps to show interest, but it does not push you to the front of the line or anything like that.

If you are in Vision or another summer program you need to find a positive way to stick out. I don’t know why more students do not do this, but if you want to make a serious impression on admissions it would probably be a good idea to schedule a private meeting with your state/region’s admissions director in the Main Building. Yes, while your friends are out on a scavenger hunt, you can really stick out by putting on a shirt and a tie and having a conversation with somebody in admissions. Treat it sort of like an interview. I know from experience that far too few people do this and it really is a shame. Good luck.
