What's the most accessible bank?

Oh, I was wondering about this too. Is there a student bank on campus or do you have to walk a couple blocks?

chase or citi are best, there are other atm's all over the place but withdrawing from them is silly because you're constantly paying 2-4% in transaction costs. citi and chase have the most atms and branches in the shortest distance.

There used to be a 'branch' of Citibank in Lerner, but they were really slow and incompetent and it no longer exists. There are several Citibank ATMs on campus (IAB and Lerner, at least), which makes Citibank the most convenient. The major banks like Citibank and Chase all have branches within a few blocks of the campus. You don't really need to go to the branch, though.

well the space is still there and every so often, especially during the beginning of the school year, a couple ppl would show up to peddle bank accounts and credit cards and answer questions.

I think its easier to find a chase ATM than it is to find a citibank ATM everywhere in the city except columbia's campus since chase has an ATM in every duane reade pharmacy. They both have no-fee college student checking accounts...i think the requirements are that you keep a balance of 1500 or use direct deposit.

I would suggest that if you can maintain a balance of at least $3000, which i know very few college freshmen can do, to open an account at both banks...that way you'll never have to pay an ATM fee....which are, for the record, not 2-4% but are actually from $1.50-$2 ...it's never variable nor does it depend on how much you take out.

This is pretty frigging silly. Citibanks and Chases are both all over the city, and you'll have no trouble finding a Citibank ATM if you're a Citibank customer and the same with respect to Chase. I don't know why a Citibank customer in NYC would have to go to a Chase, and vice versa.

There's a Bank of America at 109 and Broadway (maybe 110 or 108?), if you feel like walking, and a Banco Popular (anyone from PR?) at 112 and Broadway...just to add to those mentioned already

Citi, it'll make your life easier.

theres a wamu on like 111th or 110th. i had them before and didnt change services. its only 3-4 blocks from carman, so if you have them then i dont think changing is really necessary.

citi, there's three atm locations right ON campus (well actually 2,, but the other one's in IAB).. 1 lerner 1 uris and 1 IAB

Also from the Barnard website: I think, but am not sure, that the ATM in Barnard Hall was a citi ATM--someone else who knows could correct me if I'm wrong.

ATM

There is an Automatic Teller Machine in the lobby of Barnard Hall and in the lobby of the Interchurch Center on Claremont Avenue.
