My freshman year of college I went to a state school and didn't like it. I've since transferred home for my sophomore year and I'm now attending community college. I was planning on transferring to another state school for the Fall 2012 semester, but now I'm not sure if I'll be able to or not.

My gpa from my freshman year was only a 2.4. I had a relatively good first semester at this school, but second semester I ran into problems. I was taking a Biology class and really struggling, so I planned on withdrawing. I was advised not to though because I then I would have dropped down to only three classes, making me a part time student and possibly would have gotten me kicked out of the dorms. I ended up with a D in the class and also as a result the grades in my other classes suffered because most of my effort was going into trying to pass Biology. I accept responsibility for this, and I've since been trying to improve my gpa.

I just finished my first semester at community college and I'm expecting my gpa to be at least a 3.0, but final grades aren't in yet . Many colleges I'm planning on applying to require at least a 2.8 gpa to get into the major of my choice. Since I have attended two colleges they're going to combine my two gpa's. I'm not sure if I can raise my gpa high enough in time for me to apply to schools.

I only have next semester and two summer classes to take before I transfer and the deadline for transfer applications is May 1st. My final grades for next semester won't be in until a little over a week after that. If I at least apply by the deadline, can I send my transcripts in later, or must the application and transcripts both be in by May 1st? I'm also considering staying at community college an extra semester, taking the classes I planned on taking in the summer at this time, and taking an additional class or two so I can have more time to raise my gpa. Would this be a bad option?
