This is kinda long, but here it goes...

I transferred into USC a year ago and I'm currently an English major, but my dream (and the reason I applied to USC) is to get into Annenberg to major in Public Relations.

This is my problem... As a transfer student, I had an incoming GPA of 3.8, but during my first year at SC, I had some terrible personal problems and I lost my focus in school. Those problems are now resolved, but my GPA fell to 2.2 and it's something I'm extremely ashamed to admit. I've since pulled it up to 2.9 within the past 2 semesters, but according to the Annenberg application, I have to have a 3.0 to be "competitive."

Do I have a chance at all to apply for Annenberg's PR program? Or should I try for Communications? If I get into Comm, should I try to apply for PR later?

Also, any advice/tips about the statement of intent as part of the Annenberg application would be GREATLY appreciated! The prompt is to write about why I want to pursue a career/education in PR. It just seems so... vague and all I can think of is that I want to do PR because I like using PR to raise awareness of different causes from the internship experiences that I've had. Also, should I mention why my GPA dropped? How should I do that without making it sound like I'm just making excuses?

Any current Annenberg students out there? Please share your experiences about applying!!
