Need Advice

Hi everyone! I was recently accepted into Case Western Reserve nursing with a very generous merit offer that would allow me to graduate with no debt. I know it makes sense to attend CWRU, but my only problem is that I was accepted to Northeastern early action and have become extremely attached to it. They didn't offer me nearly as much but I've pictured myself at NEU since middle school, making it hard for me to consider attending another college. I've also heard some pretty negative comments about CWRU (extreme rigor, nerdy-vibe, no social life) and I've been trying to take them with a grain of salt, but I'm having a hard comparing it to NEU without any bias. If anyone has any positive info on CWRU or any advice in general, I'd GREATLY appreciate it. Thanks!

This all depends on you and how much enjoying these next four years is to you. If the experience from northeastern is worth the extra money to you, then by all means go! I wish I could give you advise on CWRU, but I know very little about it as I didn’t like it’s style and didn’t apply myself :/

I have a friend who is in a similar boat. He’s been accepted at Dartmouth, but will have to take out a bunch in loans to go, while he has a simultaneous full ride at a much less prestigious university that isn’t his dream school. He absolutely loves Dartmouth, and for him, it’s worth forking over the extra cash.

I think only you can determine how much the potentially better “experience” is worth to you in terms of $$$.
Case is an excellent school and I am sure you can find like-minded souls there especially among the nursing majors. But it still has an overall nerdier vibe than Northeastern, and Northeastern has a better city location (more colleges in the area, better attractions/restaurants/ etc. within walking distance etc). So I would also prefer NEU if I were you.
But, I wouldn’t go into debt to do it!

I second Beantowngirl on Not going into debt. If your parents can afford NEU and they are good with you going there then go. Otherwise I would not.

Both are great schools, but I wouldn’t consider the differences worth much debt at all. How much debt?

You can surely find plenty of like-minded people wherever you go. You don’t have to hang out with the nerds, and there will be plenty to do in Cleveland and plenty of people to do it with.

What in particular has appealed to you about NEU? You say you’ve always wanted to go, but you don’t say why. Are you sure that those items are real and are not at Case?

Good luck!

GreekMom- I’m actually really glad you asked me that because while I was thinking about my reply, I realized my reasoning really isn’t worth the extra debt. Basically, I just really liked the atmosphere and campus vibe every time I visited, and had always pictured myself attending. But I would be in about 40-50k debt…

Now that I’m rethinking everything, it makes sense for me to just go visit CWRU and try to keep an open mind.

Thanks for the input everyone. :)

I was going to post and suggest you go talk to some current students and get a sense of the school, sounds like you’re already going to do that. Once you do you’ll be able to make an informed choice.
