Hi all Im an aussie girl going over to the states for an exchange next year and I was wondering if you could help me with a few decisions.

Which Uni is the best/should I choose?
i.e socially, academically and in sports. I really want to experience everything that the USA has to offer with college.

San Diego State
Buffalo State College
Clemson
Oklahoma State
Colorado State
Minnesota State
Northern Arizona State
Purdue

I was also wondering if it will be easy to make friends over there, do you guys like australians? Will it be easier to get along with people cause im foreign? lol

Also I was wondering about sororities, will they take me if im only there for a year?

If you want to experience the big-time American college sports scene, I think the best options on that list would be Oklahoma State, Clemson, and Purdue (not necessarily in that order). Many of the others are smaller or not very well-known for sports.

It should be fairly easy to make friends. (I’m not sure about the sorority for just one year.)

Out of those I think Purdue and SDSU are the best, as in most recognized.

Yeah it’s not that hard making friends over here. We’re not that much different from you people (I don’t think so, at least). We like Australians I guess. We don’t dislike them that’s for sure. Your accent will give you lots of success with the guys, because we find foreign girls exotic.

Honestly, Purdue is your best bet IMO, although the winters kinda suck. We like Australians :).

And no, most sororities will not take you for only a year :(. You might be able to be some kind of honorary member in a multi-cultural or international student one though.

I’d go with Purdue. Definitely the best combination of the qualities you’re looking for. The drinking age might annoy you as it does with most foreign students who are accustomed to easily obtaining alcohol. It’ll be inconvenient for you to buy alcohol and maybe get into bars/clubs (not true if you’re an attractive girl), but age isn’t relevant when it comes to frat/house parties which tend to dominate the social scene at schools like Purdue.

Fantastic thanks for all the help, because to tell you the truth us aussies really have no bloody idea what to expect in america if we’ve never been there.
Ill be 21 a couple months after i get there so it shouldnt be too much of an issue, im also a model down here so i suppose the bar thing wouldnt be too much of an issue huh lol

Ohh and i was wondering wether to stay in the dorms or off campus, any suggestions?

Definitely stay in the dorms. It’s the easiest way to become immersed in the college/college life, and especially being an exchange student, that’ll be important.

Stay in the dorms, it will be tons of fun.

I remember we had a lot of australian students on our floor. We used to all go out and get wasted then sing that peter allen song, “i still call australia home” outside 2 clock in the morning.

I’ve been to Australia a few times and my wife lived there for many years. My impression of Australians is that they are more outgoing than Americans which should make it easy for you to make friends. A lot of college students are pretty shy and an outgoing personality can be like a magnet.

i think it all depends on what kind of experience u want to get from your stay in the u.s.
for example, the culture at clemson is completely different from san deigo. college sports play a big role here

i m pretty sure they will plan outside trips for your guys no matter where u go…like go to nyc over break

Bloody hell guys Ive only ever seen them on tv dont freak me out before i get there! Now Snow im excited to see But im not sure about the cold lol minus temps are not what we generally get down here.

Ok so Oklahoma out then, Hey is it true that Northern Arizona Uni is all lesbians :S I read some weird stuff on college *******…
