Need-Based Financial Aid

Now that the College Scholars have been awarded, does anyone know the approximate timing for receiving information regarding need based aid? Thanks!

i got my letter today stating all scholarships, subsidized/unsubsidized loans, work study, etc. you should receive yours probably in the next day or two (i seem to get my mail a day before everyone else due to area). good luck.

ps13,

Thanks for the update. Hope you were happy with your package :)

I wish I could be. My D really likes Wooster. However, our EFC was too high to qualify for any grants, so basically 19.5K scholarship, work study, and student loans, and we still have to come up with $20,670 out of pocket a year and $1500-2000 living expenses. How do people do it? I wish I could say that I had this large college fund saved, but we don’t. The FAFSA doesn’t look at your house payment or day to day expenses. It doesn’t look how your house has lost equity in this economy and probably loan amount is higher than worth at this point, thus pay extra a month and try to pay the most amount you can afford on your house payment so that you can payoff within next 13 years (42 years old, so would be 55). I have been researching all night on College Board site and trying to find best route available. I guess could get a Parent Plus Loan for 8.25% (automatic withdrawal rate), but that means a 10-year loan with another D graduating in a few years. When can you retire? Feels like never. I did call the Financial Aid Department and got some advice about an appeal and other considerations such as using Parent Plus with making 10 monthly installments on a set amount so not so much would be financed. However, it looks like my days of struggling continue and no end in site.
I am sorry this probably sounds like a whining session…

ps13…no apology is necessary as I totally agree with you. It’s definitely a struggle for alot of us. Wishing you and your Ds the best (I have two Ds as well - just one year apart).

Does Wooster tend to give good need-based aid to pell grant recipients and those with low EFCs?

What I mean by that (all amounts are per annum):
EFC - $3,000
Pell grant - $3,000
Dean’s scholarship - $14,000

That leaves $24,280, plus living expenses.

I am VERY happy about my Fin Aid package. To everyone asking, Wooster does a great job of meeting your EFC. Collegeboard’s stats for Wooster’s typical FA had me unnecessarily worried…

I am actually pretty disappointed with my fin. aid from wooster. I had an EFC of about 1200 and but it still will cost about 9777 to attend, something I cant do without taking more loans, which is something i don’t plan on doing. unfortunately, wooster probably isn’t the school for me.
