Need-Blind for Internationals

Woah! That was close! :p

Well about the need bling thing, its different for Indians I suppose. The competition is very intense. Every college receives like 100s of applications from India.

cameliasinesis: what did you choose for your DOC trip?

I'm in Section H Trailwork (September 12-16). It wasn't my first choice, but I'm sure it'll be spectacular.

nevermind.

All the best Camelia :)

FindFishFast: Hippie? Organic Gardening? Naw... :p

I'm an international needing aid here.. Not those pre-Nobel-prizewinner-calibre guy.. Would applying ed to Dartmouth or Williams on aid be a huge risk since my first target is to get into a decent college? Regular is more competitive everywhere.. So should i choose an easier ED?

ED is not necessarily easier especially for an unhooked student. Most of the ED spots are going to legacies, recruited athletes, developmental admits, some URMs (less of these as they are still underrepresented in RD) and stellar students who know that Dartmouth/Williams is a first choice.

At Dartmouth, the already know that there are going to be at least another 10,000 applications coming in during RD so a student with less than stellar stats (especially needing aid) does not have an "easier" time getting in. The same goes for Williams except they will get ~5000 more applications and they are need blind to international students.

I have one hook.. That's i'm from Brunei and i'm a first generation college student.. 4 A levels predicted 4 As.. Am i 'hook' enough to stand a chance at Will/Dart ed?

You will be tossed into the pool of international candidates. However, if you need a significant amount of aid, it does not matter where you come from, if you are not at the top of the pool, the odds probably won't be in your favor. all you can do is present your best self and let the process play itself out.

'an easier ed'- i meant applying ed to a less selective school so that i have a higher chance of getting in.
brunei is not represented at Dartmouth, won that help?

So you think that Dartmouth is less selective? Mate, Dartmouth is one of the top universities and one of the most selective Universities in US. And applying at less selective universities just because you want to get in is not a good idea. If you want to get in anywhere, I'd say apply to NDSU :p

Sorry for not being clear.. I meant instead of a tough ed at dartmouth should i go for an easier ed at other schools like for example wpi.. Dartmouth is a dream and dream is not easy to come true!

Since i know i'm not as good as you ppl.. And what is that nsdu

And i don simply choose an ed, i'll choose one i like.. And with good chances.. I don just pick a ball out of a hat

NDSU - North Dakota State University

Good Luck with you Application process jhl :)
