Need-Blind for Internationals

I remember hearing that students at Dartmouth are urging the Admission Office to be need blind for Internationals. Any chance of students pulling this off by this November? :D

Dartmouth will not be need blind for international students this admissions cycle.

Due to the limited resources available for financial aid, Dartmouth must take the financial resources of international applicants into account when making admissions decisions. Dartmouth provides financial aid to all admitted students who demonstrate financial need and will meet 100% of that demonstrated need.

yeah I read that sybbie but I heard somewhere that International students are requesting Dartmouth to change its policy. But I guess its not happening anytime soon :(

It's things like this that make me wonder how I ever got into this school, honestly. :D

You got in because you are an amazing person and I hope that you have a great time in Hanover.

I guess you are counting the days unitl your DOC trip;)

she is amazing indeed.

that's why she's my wife.

=)

Hey, you never know what will happen between now and 2011 (I met a few of my D's friends who are engaged to other Dartmouth students :D )

you hear that, elle?

sybbie will witness our quasi-holy matrimony.

Holy? Not if I have anything to say about it. is a heathen :D

And yes, I keep a countdown on my Facebook profile (37 days!).

lol. true. but let's just do it in a random protestant church... for my parents.

i know, dude. i got that countdown from your page. lol.

either way... it'll be a lovely marriage. how many languages will be represented? we'll have to have translators sitting in the back... spanish/swedish... lol

Its things like this that make me wonder how am I going to get in :(

PS: Sybbie DOES use smileys!! :D The only time when I saw her using a smiley was when she posted her Ds decision :p

Ahhhh AJ,

I must be getting old and tired as I do not remember posting smilies on my D's decision (that would be buried somewhere in the old archives and I did know how to do smilies then).

However, for the Dartmouth class of 2009 posters (they are still some of my favorite posters even though some of them are at other schools), we did write using colors

Well you just used the simple one on your Ds decision >> :) :p

You used colors to write? That must have been fun!

Actually Williams was my first choice :( There were tears when I dropped the card in the mailbox saying that she was not coming. Hey she called from Dimensions and told be that she was going to Hanover (she is still good friends with her dimension friends).

oh... for my mum only MIT is the only college worth getting into. When I told her I am applying ED to Dartmouth she was like 'What? dirtmuth?' :o

Btw sybbie why was Williams your first choice? just curious... :)

Williams is an amazing school and really very similar to Dartmouth (except no greeks) in fact there is a lot of overlap in students who apply to Williams and Dartmouth(she has about 6 friends at Dartmouth that I know off the top of my head that she first met at the admitted students day at Williams and they met up again at Dimensions).

The people I met there were fantastic and like Dartmouth, they take really great care of their students. They also have a cohesive student body and a stron alumni and the FA was jaw dropping (in fact we used the Williams FA package to get a FA review from Dartmouth and Dartmouth met the Williams package). If I remember correctly Williams is also need blind to international students ;) .

In the end, D told me that you really feel the difference between 2000 and 4000 students. It really was a hard choice for her because she loved Williams too, but the final decision was hers and she chose Dartmouth. She has never looked back, never waivered, never talked about what might have been. She's gotten a great education, has some great friends, and sometimes I do see some mixed emotions as she now a senior between her getting ready to finish and go on with the next phase and saying this is all happening too fast and wanting to stay a little while longer.

Well its wonderful that she is enjoying there!!! From whatever experiences I have had in my life, I have learnt that regret is the worst thing a person can feel. You know 'I wish I had done this' 'I wish I had done that' but your daughter is enjoying herself! And that is very nice! :)

I wish that other schools were need blind to Internationals, you know leveled playground for everyone :)

i applied and get into both williams and dartmouth.

when i visited i found williams a bit too liberal for me... with dartmouth there seemed to be much more diversity in terms of political beliefs. which... rocks.

at a Q&A with students during previews (williams) i asked a student what the garfield republican club was like. he laughed at me.

needless to say... i'm a green '11er.

=)

but i found several similarities at both schools... williams is like... a smaller version of dartmouth... sans the greek institution. they seemed to be proud of that... but both reek of jockocity.

If I get into Dartmouth I will be feeling like--- > :D <--- Green!! :)

I think many international students attach too much emphasis to whether a college is need-blind or not. I was waitlisted by Williams and Middlebury (both need-blind) but accepted by Dartmouth and Wellesley (both need-aware) despite needing quite a bit of aid. The one school where I know it makes a difference is the University of Chicago, whose admissions office told my counselor they would've admitted me if I hadn't applied for aid.
