Does anyone know if Georgetown is need blind towards Canadians? And as an international student, is it extremely difficult to get some sort of need-based scholarship? Are my chances drastically lowered if I apply for the financial aid?

I'm pretty sure it is need-blind, because all of the financial aid forms for EA were not even due yet. So they accepted the EA students with no knowledge whatsoever of their needs, besides knowing who was planning to apply for financial aid.

Hey spiritedaway! I'm a Canadian student that got in last year (I took a year off and will be attending in Fall 2005). To answer your question, yes, Georgetown is need blind to Canadian students, but once you get in, you don't qualify for aid (unless you get one of 5 scholarships given to int'l students). Hope this helps!!

is it too late to decide that you want to apply for financial aid after all if you checked the "no" box on the EA app?

and if so... does anyone have a rough idea of the maximum-income cutoff for need-based aid, based on previous years?

No, it's not too late if you already checked "no" on the app. (I forgot to, geez). You just have to turn in the correct forms by February 1st (but I think they say that the priority deadline is January 1st?).

I called a couple months ago and asked them this exact question.

yeah, it said in the acceptance packet that they'd like it all by the 1st of Jan. I don't think I'll mind too much.

aluska,
So does that mean if I fill out the international application for financial aid, it wont affect my admissions decisison? Is getting financial aid really that difficult? :( I know I definately will be needing some (even a little portion would help)...theres no way my family can afford $40,000 US every year.

You can certinaly fill out the form and it won't hurt your chances because Georgetown is need blind. But yes, finacial aid is really difficult to get if you don't have a US citizenship. They give what they called "limited aid" to foreign students (I think they have 5 full ride scholarships) and that's it. It's always good to apply, because you may get some aid.

But I'm in the EXACT same situation you're in. My family can't afford to pay, so I'm going to need to take out a HUGE loan. But in the end, I think it'll be worth it.

Ok thanks so much for your help everyone :D
I think it'll be worth it too!
