i know you are referring to financial aid. but what does need-blind need EXACTLY?

Middlesex is need blind. Are you sure that exeter is need blind? I do not believe exeter need blind.

Andover and Exeter aren't need blind. They said they are close, though.

oops! i meant wat does need-blind MEAN

It means that your financial situation isn't considered.

At most schools, they'll pick the kid who's not applying for financial aid, over the one who may be a little more competent, but is applying for financial aid/

Exeter became need blind as of this year.

All of them could be need blind if they wanted to.

Not really, Jonathan. The schools needs to be able to cover their expenses, make improvements to the facilities, have contingency, etc. So they need a regular income plus funds they can take from their endowment. Some have to balance limited funds with what they can afford to grant to students who need financial assistance.

I know for a fact that Andover is need-blind, and as CollegeMK said, Exeter became need-blind as of this year. So...yeah. Are Hotchkiss, Choate, Loomis Chaffee etc, etc, need-blind?

Andover isn't need blind, is it?

I read on The Phillipian website that they were working on it, but that was like...three months ago.

Hotchkiss is not need blind, nor are Loomis or Choate.
Hotchkiss' party line:
http://www.hotchkiss.org/Admission/Fina_FAQ.asp#5
Choate's:

(second question)

Look in the fourth paragraph:

Not need-blind yet.

Quote from 'The Exonian,' June 11, 2006:

"PEA Offers Need-blind Admissions in 2006-07

The Exeter Initiatives fundraising campaign made visible returns this spring, as the Admissions Office was finally able to admit applicants regardless of financial status.

'We were able to admit every financial aid candidate we wanted, and it felt great,' Director of Admissions Michael Gary said.

End quote. The article goes on to talk about how the success of the Initiatives, which have raised $237 million thus far.

yep, andover isn't completely need-blind. but with a $622 million endowment, i don't think financial aid should factor too much into the admissions process. for me, i'd say my family is middle-class (not swimming in cash, but not drowning in debt either) -- but still, andover gave me a whopping financial aid package. choate gave me an even better package, and they're not need-blind either. the scholarship that i got more than sufficed.

funny how only few of these remains need blind today And the one main NB school wasn’t even NB back then!
