Need College Advice

Hey, I need some help. I applied early decision to Dartmouth, which obviously, I got deferred, but I wanted to try because I have always wanted to go there. Now I am trying to find some other colleges to apply to, but I don't really know what my chances are.

1310 SATs
710 Math
600 Verbal
4.1 GPA weighted, top 20% of class
(Extremely competitive high school)

Class President, Student Council, Orchestra, School Musical, 3 Varsity sports (Volleyball, Basketball, Track), NHS, Head of Schools Community Service Department, School Newspaper, Spanish Club

Do I have a chance at Lehigh, Wake Forest, UNC, Davidson, Hopkins, American, and Villanova? Are there any other schools that you would suggest applying to?

wow u have exactly same SAT score as me :p but u have much higher GPA

One word: UConn. Other than that, just stay out of that terriotory. The Tar Heels need more than just top 20%, no matter what high school. Just let Lehigh be the judge of the toughness of your high school. Dartmouth is way out of this world. Put to bed those false dreams and try a quaint school. North Texas would love to have you, I'm sure. Lettering in sports isn't going to help you either. UNC and Wake Forest have fantastic Basketball programs, and plus, if your school is as smart and competitive as you say it is, chances are your Basketball team was terrible. As a college councelor of 13 years, I have seen the Newspaper card get shot down time after time. You have to have some implement of power on the paper if you even want them to notice it. Other wise it will be crossed of admission officials list. I'm guessing your not an editor, judging by your poor verbal skills. Class president is the one thing you got working for you, but it probably won't save you from your sub-par SAT and your low ranking. But don't get discouraged, what do I know?

Dartmouth Graduate

When I posted this thread, I was not expecting to be continuously berated on things that I didn't even ask for comments on. I'm sorry that I can't be as good as you, all knowing Dartmouth graduate. All I was asking, is which schools you would suggest that I apply to, I wasn't asking for an attack on my writing ability, "low ranking", and "sub-par sat scores". I was asking for some advice. And thank you for telling me that all of the activities that I have worked so hard on throughout highschool are worthless. I guess involvement in school is hardly important, and we should all sit at home and post obnoxious remarks on collegeconfidential.com to make us feel better about ourselves, instead of actually accomplishing something. A 1310 is hardly sub-par, and the average 50% midrange of North Texas is 980-1200. When I asked for advice, I didn't ask for degrading remarks.

You have good scores, and everything, you should be able to get into lots of schools. Dartmouth did not reject you, you can apply again and have another shot. Make sure they know how much you love their school.

I'm sorry AK, but do not get all up in my humpy-bumpy. Just back off and I will apologize, which I am assuming you will accept. If you do not, then I have to say you may not be the Dartmouth kind.

You aren't even a Dartmouth graduate. I hope you sleep well tonight.

He graduated from Harvard, Amherst, and Dartmouth. Amazing. While, at the same time he is also applying to college. Hmmm...multiple personalities.

He's most likely just a Dartmouth or Columbia Reject who is trying to **** us all off.

UNC is hard to get into from out-of-state. Might want to look at Holy Cross, Trinity, or Colby. Holy Cross has good combination of academics and social/school spirit.
