So I don't even know where to start with my college search. I've posted on a few obvious colleges but I need help.

I want to major in both psychology and sociology and I want to go on to law school. I think I want to work in the government somehow to fight for children's rights, especially innercity kids. Or just become a lawyer and fight for them that way. I don't know who else to ask, my parents didn't go to college and my guidance counselor is horrible and just tells everybody to go to whatever college they want to, which doesn't help.

I have good grades and great ec's, almost all of which center around inner city kids and sports such as volunteer couching, reffing, umping and even starting a nonprofit basketball league for girls that I know don't have anywhere else to go. I can get in pretty much anywhere except for the normal reaches which are reaches for everybody.

Anything is appreciated. Thank you.

Your choice of majors and career path allows you to consider most universities. You say you have good grades and are pretty much able to consider most universities. I take it you have a 3.7+ unweighed GPA, 2000+ SAT? It is really hard to give you a real range of schools if you don't give us more information about the type of classes you took, an aproximate unweighed GPA and an SAT/ACT score.

Can you also give us more details about you so that we can recommend universities that fit your personality and needs? Do you have geographic and size preferences? Do you have financial restrictions? Is there any type of campus atmpshere that you are seeking? Intellectual and serious? Laid back and relaxed? Intense and dynamic? Party school? Big-time sports? All of the above?

Sorry haha.

GPA
Fresh-Junior UW- 3.89 W-4.03
Soph-Junior UW-3.96 W- 4.17

ACT- 33
No SAT scores yet. PSATs were high though.

I'm looking for pretty laid back. Don't want a major party school. Size, really doesn't matter. Either of the coasts or southwest somewhere. Can't get into a UC school because I don't have an art credit. Or Michigan because that would be in-state for me. Plus, I need some place where freshman don't have to live on campus or they have special freshman housing for married freshman because I am getting married before I leave for college.

Michigan, UChicaho, virtually any other liberal arts school.

That... narrows it down lol. Thank you, hadn't thought of U Chicago.

I am not sure I understand why you can't consider Michigan. Are you saying you want to get away and experience a new part of the country.

At any rate, why aren't you considering Michigan? It would be cheap for you to attend, there is a good chance you will get a scholarship, it has top 3 departments in Psychology and Sociology, excellent Law school placement and doesn't have an on-campus living requirement for Freshmen.

I second the University of Chicago (amazing Sociology and Law school placement) and I would also add the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

But truly, many universities and colleges would fit your interests and needs. Given your credentials, you can apply to any top university and stand a chance, assuming you write good essays.

Brown University
Columbia University
Cornell University
Harvard University
Indiana University-Bloomington
Northwestern University
Princeton University
Stanford University
University of Chicago
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor
University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill
Unversity of Pennsylvania
University of Texas-Austin
University of Wisconsin-Madison

I would not worry too much about housing because most universities, even those that have mendatory on-campus living requirements for Freshmen will have family housing on campus. Of course, you should check with the universities before filling up the form, but I would be suprised if a university did not make provisions for such cases.

I am considering Michigan, I never said I wasn't. I just wanted some other options. Money will be an issue for me so the cheaper the better. However, I already do have some scholarship money. Michigan is a good option, I just want other suggestions.

I've never heard of University of Wisconsin, there are excellent universities out there I've never heard of so instead of just randomly searching, I came here for advice.
Thank you for the advice so far.
