I'm interested in neuroscience and hopefully will major in it in college.
Consequently I was wondering what other ECs I can add to be competitive for top colleges. So far I am planning to intern at a neuroscience lab this coming summer, I was a runner-up in an essay contest about mental illness, and I am studying for a Brain Bee this coming February.
What else can I do to showcase my interest and look good for top colleges?

You could try compete for USABO. I don’t know much about it, but I’ve heard that it’s basically rote memorization from Campbell Biology. If you take or have taken AP Bio, it should be a little easier.

Ok thanks!

Anyone else?

Maybe try USNCO (Chemistry Olympiad). I don’t know how related that would be to neuroscience, per se, but since you’re probably going to need the knowledge in the future, it would be good.

But other than that, I’m not sure if there are other ECs for neuroscience. I’m also interested in neuroscience so this thread is helpful for me too. :)

Oh yeah, maybe you could start a neuroscience/philosophy/cog sci/linguistics club. If not neuroscience, philosophy, cog sci, and linguistics are pretty related and may have more opportunities for competition. Just a suggestion.

Yay cool! Thank you!

I would suggest that it is foolish to ask strangers how to spend your time in order to impress other strangers.

Follow your passions, whatever they are. Build a house with Habitat for Humanity or learn to play the banjo or plant a garden- whatever sounds appealing to you for using your time productively outside of studies. Don’t try to speculate about what adcoms will consider important. Your high school years are short - enjoy them.

A few people are talented writers and can insert passion into any topic. However, most will make clear which activities are done simply to add to a resume.
