I am going to seek a recommendation from a Penn professor (I have just completed a class that he taught this summer). I will be applying ED. What form should I give him (basically, what format/way should he write a recommendation letter?) Also, if anyone has any advice on if it’s too early for him to actually send it in the undergrad admissions (given the fact that even if someone applies ED, it’s going to be a while before they even submit their application to Penn), that’d be great. Thanks a lot.

Why not just ask him to write a standard letter of recommendation (no general format) and have him give it to you to submit with your application? Most professors are comfortable signing the back of the envelope after sealing it to ensure that you do not read it.

username321, I will not see him again after this week.

That doesn't really matter...

1) Ask the professor if he'd be willing to write it.
2) Tell him to mail it to you/you'll pick it up at his convenience.
3) He'll sign the back of the envelope to prove that the letter has not been opened.
4) You submit the unopened letter with your application. If you apply electronically, you put the sealed envelope in a larger envolope and include a note indicating what is in the prof's envelope.

Ok that clears it up username, thanks.
