First I jut want to start by saying my guidance counselor is not very good. She is very emotional and sometimes even unstable. She is the type of person who doesn't wants everyone to be even and doesn't want one student to take much harder classes than everyone else. I want to get into top schools so I know I have to have a rigourous course load. For my sophomore year I am trying to get
Ap chemistry
Ap computer science
Ap statistics
Ap government and politics
Ap macroeconomics
Ap environmental science

But she says I am going to fail. I have all honors classes now as a freshman (no ap available) and I sleep in class never to homework and never study and have a 100 average in all my classes. I know it will be tough but I'm positive I can handle it. How is the best way to convince my counselor without being rude because I know I need her to write a college rec and I need her on my side.

I’m also taking English 2 honors I forgot to add that because she has no problem with that. I’m doing IB Si I will get 4 language credits there jr and sr year so I’m not taking a language sophomore year. I’m taking precal as a freshman and I am doing IB which is basically calculus and higher level math.

If you take that many AP’s sophomore year, will you have enough to take Junior and Senior year? Pace yourself; I agree that you should challenge yourself, but I think your counselor may be right.

APES, economcs, and government are really easy. Statistics is medium, CS and Chemistry are hard. I think that courseload is doable, but a bit too excessive for a sophomore. If you know you can handle it though, then go for it. You can always switch out if it becomes too difficult. And even if your guidance counselor is against it, what is she going to say in her recommendation if you get 4’s and 5’s and A’s in all those classes? How can she say something negative about that?

If you get your parents or the principal on your side she will have to give it to you. It also might help if you can bring one of your favorite teachers to a meeting with your counselor to stick up for you.
