Need help deciding UCSC VS CU Boulder

I got into these two schools for transfer from CC and need to decide which one I want to go to tonight. So far I am leaning towards Boulder but I would like some input. I’m currently studying to be an electrical engineer, but I don’t really enjoy it and want to switch to mechanical. Because UCSC doesn’t have mechanical, I would most likely do robotics engineering there. I am from California, so UCSC would give me in state tuition, but because I went to CC for 2 years I have enough money set aside for CU Boulder as well (although it would cost around 15k more a year). I love the UCSC campus, but also love to ski (which boulder has a lot of). I feel that I am somewhat a hippie so I’m looking for that type of vibe (I have heard that both schools have this, but have also heard that a lot of kids in CU are very rich and take money for granted, which I don’t like). Any advice would be appreciated!

Robotics uses some principles from mechanical engineering, but it also uses principles from electrical engineering, which you say you don’t enjoy and would like to switch out of. In this case, Colorado would seem to be worth the extra money.

Tough call. I think that you understand your options well.

CU-Boulder is more wealthy than hippie. And you are correct about access to snow skiing.

While the vibe that you are seeking can be found at both schools, I think that it is more pronounced at Santa Cruz.

I cannot make a recommendation; I can only confirm your thoughts & impressions.
