need help deciding where to study abroad!

i'm planning on studying abroad next year and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations as to where to study abroad. or do any of you have friends that studied abroad and had great experiences in specific countries?

i'm looking into europe (italy, spain, or france), but i'm open to other countries as well. thanks everyone:)

I am leaning more and more toward Australia, but the main reason as to why I haven’t ruled out Europe yet is because I could concivably visit 5 or more countries during my stay abroad, so that’s a factor. Have you researched them on the EAP website? There are some things that might help narrow it down, for instance all the Spain programs are taught in Spanish and have a language prerequisite, and if you have your sights set on Barcelona you don’t have the option to go in the fall. France is also taught in French unless you choose the UC construct program, which I feel sort of defeats the purpose of studying abroad so I was looking at immersion programs in which you take classes alongside normal students of the university. Deciding on the semester or year you want to go and the type of program you want and whether or not you will need to be taught in english will help narrow down some of the choices.

my boyfriend did EAP Rome from Jan to May. had a great experience (he’s italian). traveled a lot during weekends and such. but it seemed pretty rigorous…pulled quite a few all nighters and said he studied harder there than at UCLA

i did ISA Paris (private company) for july. great programming! easy classes (art history and such) lots of weekend excursions. well worth the money

currently, in Vienna through UC Davis summer program (yes you can do other UC summer programs, UCI has some pretty good ones as well). taking a history course. really good as well. its been cool comparing the two countries

SO, it’s really what you want. what kind of classes are you looking to take? do you feel a connection with any certain country? go to the EAP office and talk to them

oh and studying abroad for a year…consider what you will miss at UCLA. my bf studied for 4 mos and had some trouble readjusting back to UCLA and life here. friends/groups/clubs change. be prepared for that

^I’m doing a summer program to avoid that. UCLA’s too amazing to miss out on, to me.
