I’ve connected an HDMI cable from my the port on my iMac Mini to the HDMI1 port on my TV, but when I show HDMI1 on the TV, I just get my iMac desktop image - not what I’ve got pulled up on the computer screen. What do I need to do in order to get what’s displayed on my iMac onto the screen of the TV?
Try this:
- Go to the Apple Menu.
- Open “System Preferences.”
- Click on “Displays.”
- Click on the “Arrangement” tab.
- Tick the box that says “Mirror Displays” if you want your TV to show the same content that is being shown on your laptop screen.
If it’s a smart tv, do you have an option (input) for Airplay or Smartcast or something like that? Then when you’re playing something, facetiming, etc. on your iMac, does it have a “cast” option? I have a Vizio smart tv and I can do that from my iPhone. No HDMI needed. Or if you just want to mirror the screen, the previous response sounds good.
Hmmm . . . I followed Rivet’s instructions and now I have the sound on HDMI1, but the image is still my iMac desktop. O2, it’s an older iMac Mini and a 2016 LG TV, so both components re a little behind the times.
Are u sure you selected the mirror setting? Sounds like it’s treating your tv as an extended desktop. If so you should be able to open a file on the Mac and drag it to the tv display. Can’t recall if you need to drag up/down or left/right.
02? Mac Mini’s weren’t even produced yet. iMacs were like the 1st line of G4 PPC’s. The did support Airport though. Can you specify which year and model you are using and the OS?
Was that directed at me? I don’t know anything about Mac mini’s, I was just throwing out there that my iPhone (latest os) can cast to my smart tv in a lot of cases. May or may not fit the op’s situation, just offering a possibility.
LOL - Not '02, I was just directing a comment to "O2"BonCC. Thanks for all the suggestions. Having implemented them, I found a link on the TV for setting up screen sharing and was able to get both iMac audio and video on the TV. I’m not sure whether I’ll be able to hit all the correct boxes again when I need to find them, but at least I now know that it’s possible. The CC Parents Cafe is the best all-purpose source of online info and suggestions that I know! Thanks again.
If you Mac has AirPlay and your tv supports it ( like LG smart TVs) and they are both on same WiFi you can screen share. But OP asked about and hdmi setup.
