Need help filling out "Enter your mother's exemptions for 2012....."

"Enter your mother's exemptions for 2012. This amount is found on IRS Form line 1040-6d."

To sum it up, my parents are separated (living in separate states), and I do not live with either of them. I am signing with my mom, as she is the custodial parent. She does not have any W-2 since '95, as my father refused to let her work (abusive/controlling situation).

They filed joint taxes for their 2012 year, but, obviously, my mother claimed $0.00.

My question is: how do I do the math, when there is me, my two sisters, and her, to get the exemption number. I want my father completely out of this, but I am so confused as to what to do right now.

Are you applying for aid for this CURRENT school year?

If you are applying for 2014-2015, I would think you would be using data from your 2013 taxes, not your 2012 taxes.

You can’t really get your father out of it if they are signing and filing taxes jointly. You are going to need to provide a tax return for her, and that’s it for her. The number of exemptions probably is 3 or more (father, mother, you, any other siblings?)

Yes, make sure you are filling out the correct year.
