I tried calling FAFSA but I didn't really get the response I needed. I currently live with my mother (my parents are married, but separated). My parents filed jointly, but since they are separated I only included my mother's information (primary financial support). My mother has two dependents (my brother and I) and it lists 4 tax exemptions on the tax return. My question is--I know she has 2 exemptions for my brother and me, but what about the other 2? I don't want to count an exemption for my father because he doesn't live with us. Any explanation would be greatly appreciated.

You're correct to only include your Mom's income and assets.

For Q81, exemptions on parents tax return, include only your Mom's portion of the exemptions (likely one for her, and one for you, and one for your brother).

On Q37, student's exemptions, it would match your taxes, if you filed, but probably zero if your Parents included you as an exemption on their taxes.

Now, for Household Members, Q66, FAFSA uses a support test, not a residence test. This question has nothing to do with exemptions. So if your Mom provides more than half the support for you and your brother, and doesn't provide more than half support for any of her other kids, you'd answer 3 for this question.
