I meant to print it out and never got around to it and now I can't find it. I think it was in response to a kid asking for help convincing a parent about a BFA degree and getting work after. It contained a list of jobs outside of the performing area that a BFA MT/acting degree holder would be qualified for. I actually think this list that was posted in this thread came from an even older thread on this forum. If I am remembering correctly, I think soozievt provided that thread/list (or maybe notmamarose??)

Thank you to anyone that can dredge this old thread up for me!!!!

Thank you Snoggie; I did see this thread while I was searching. This isn’t the one I was looking for; it is helpful though. While this thread has people telling of specific jobs; the list I am looking for, I think, is contained in an article (??) and talks of different career path possibilities that a BFA MT/acting major would be qualified for.

I remember that thread as well, but don’t know how to find it. Seems like it contained a link or hints at how to get to a web site of some man who had a list of things that your fine arts degree was good for. I don’t remember the man’s name. Maybe it will come to me, but don’t count it! LOL

The man’s name is Louis Catron (that I think musicmom is referring to) who wrote an article about WHAT THEATER MAJORS LEARN. I first read the article as it was handed out in hard copy at my D’s audition for Syracuse in 2005. I have referred to it here as well. I believe DoctorJohn has mentioned on CC that there is a website with Louis Citron’s article. Citron is a faculty member at William and Mary.

I am not positive the thread you are looking for but I did a search using Catron earlier and so here are some threads on CC that reference that article (and perhaps one is one you are looking for or if not, happy reading of some old threads anyway!..I just read one of them from 2005 and find it interesting what I talked about in terms of hope of my D finding work when she graduates college and she was just starting college and here we are after graduation and she has indeed found work for now!):

Thank you soozievt!! It was the Louis Catron article that I was looking for and I first saw it on the 2nd thread that you listed. I will print it off this time. For everyone else, google Louis Catron and go to the link provided titled “What theatre majors learn”.
