I really was hoping for a 5, but i fell short and got a 4 on my AP chem test. I think it counts the same for GT (where i plan to go), but its kind of misleading. On their site it says...

a score of 4 gets you out of CHEM 1211K, 4 hours semester
a score of 5 gets you out of CHEM 1310****, 4 hours semester

does 5 get you out of both? what the hell are the stars? see for yourself... Georgia Institute of Technology :: Undergraduate Admission :: Earn College Credit/ Advanced Placement Credit

thanks for trying to make sense of this

If you scrolled down slightly further you would have seen this:

**** Students will recieve 1212K credit with satisfactory test placement score in August

Meaning that if you get a 5, you take a placement exam and you can get credit for 1212K

Ok, took me long time to find this for you…

Find this pdf: Fall 2010-Spring 2011 Changes to First Year Chem courses
on this webpage: [url=http://www.chemistry.gatech.edu/undergraduate/courses/]Georgia Tech :: Chemistry & Biochemistry :: Undergraduate Courses/url

Anyway, here are excerpts from the coursechanges pdf:
"
Refocused: CHEM 1310 General Chemistry, integrated lab (4 credits). The current CHEM 1310 course will be refocused as a one-semester class suited to engineers and other majors who typically take only one semester of chemistry.

New Courses: CHEM 1211K Chemical Principles I and CHEM 1212K Chemical Principles II (total 4 credits each) with integrated labs. This new two-semester sequence is for students whose major requires many chemistry courses. The new CHEM 1212K course will be the prerequisite for CHEM 2311 Organic I. "

"
7) AP credit: AP score = 5 will receive 1310 credit; AP=4 will receive credit for 1211K; For AP=5 it will be possible to receive credit for CHEM 1212K with satisfactory placement exam score. The exam will be offered once per year in August. Check with your advisor about major requirements "

So this is how I read it…
For those majors requiring Chem 1310, you would have to get a 5 to get credit for that first semester class.

For majors requiring Chem 1211/1212, getting an AP 4 or 5 gets you out of the first semester (1211) for sure, but you could also possibly get out of 1212 with a 5 and by passing their placement test in August.

So depending on your major curriculum, the 4 could still help. The course requirements for the different majors can be found in the catalog pdf.
