Hi. I asked this awhile back, but I am asking again with more and updated information. Okay, my teacher of Yearbook has informed me that if I wanted to be the editor of Yearbook I could. However, it is two semesters and counts as a regular class. I would also be editor my Senior year, two more semesters. You get 1 honors credit for each year you are editor, so that would mean that 2 of the 4 credits would be honors.

I am really confused on whether or not I should drop yearbook. Do colleges look at having classes such as AP Stats and Honors Physics better than being editor of yearbook for the 2 junior semesters? I am just concerned with what colleges like better - editor of yearbook or AP/honors courses?

Also, I am a little concerned about my GPA and class rank. I am currently ranked 13 with a W GPA of 4.021. This should raise because I am enrolled in 2 honors classes, which I will get 5.0's in, but there is one regular course that I am having a bit of trouble with that I will get somewhere around a 3.5, at the least. I probably need all the AP and honors classes I can get to raise this GPA. That is why I am a bit concerned about taking up on the offer of becoming Yearbook editor.

If it helps my next year's(Junior year) schedule is:
AP English
Pre-Cal (Honors)
Yearbook (Honors)
Spanish 1
Chemistry
Honors US History
Yearbook (Regular)
Spanish 1

This ^^^ is my schedule if I were to be editor of yearbook. Only 3 classes are honors and 1 AP.

Below is my schedule if I were to drop Yearbook. I would have 2 AP classes and 3 honors classes. Which one should I go with???

AP English
Pre-Cal (Honors)
Honors Physics
Spanish 1
Chemistry
Honors US History
AP Stats
Spanish 2

Please help me make a decision! I am so confused! Thanks

How much do you honestly like yearbook?

I think you know what you should do. You're not letting anyone down by picking either schedule.

If it's that hard, do what I do. Put both ideas into a hat. Reach in and pick one of the ideas without looking. Look at which one you picked. Then decide that was a stupid choice and go with the other one.

I think you should go with your passion, and do whatever YOU want to do, rather than what you think colleges would like to see. If yearbook is something that you enjoy, then you should take the class and become the editor. Also, I hate to say this, because it sounds contradictory to what I was originally saying...but it also depends on what colleges you are looking at.

Okay, thanks. I just don't know if I show do it because it has nothing to do what I am planning on majoring in. I plan on majoring in Pharmacology and going to a Pharmacy school, hopefully both at UNC. If I didn't attend UNC my only other choices for schools would be Campbell University and Wingate, unless I went out of state.

Part of me thinks that they would much rather see several math and science grades rather than Yearbook, since I am going into something which requires lots of math and science courses. I would have 4 classes in yearbook's place: Honors Physics, AP Stats, and probably AP Calculus AB part one and part 2 (2 semesters).

Would this type of college rather see leadership qualities (editor of yearbook) or several honors and AP classes in yearbook's place?

Thanks

I'm going to assume that the UNC you are talking about is UNC-Chapel Hill....correct me if I am wrong. I don't really know how UNC weighs ECs compared to academics that are related to one's field...but there is a subforum on CC for UNC and you might be able to get more insight from people who have been admitted to that school.

Go to CC Top Universities, and scroll down and you will find the sub forum for UNC-Chapel Hill (if that is the school you are talking about)...also it doesn't hurt that you are in-state also.. :) Best of luck
