Yearbook?

I'm a freshman and in March we had the opportunity to apply for positions on the yearbook and newspaper staff. I didn't apply for either, but later that month, I got a note on my locker saying, "We heard that you'd be good for yearbook, come and apply." So I applied and was chosen. From what I've heard from both my English teacher and the sponsor, it was very competitive. So I was excited until recently, when my mom told me that she didn't think it was a good idea because it's a class that counts for academic credit that's a full year. So now I've become torn. Her points make a lot of sense to me, but with the position being so competitive I feel like I should accept the position. I have also already signed up for all of my classes, but if I decide to give up the class it shouldn't be too hard for me to change my schedule for next year. So, I really have two options:
1) Stay on the staff, work hard the next two years, and apply to be editor-in-chief my senior year
or
2) Drop yearbook and take Latin I (in addition to French III Honors)?
Thanks for your help. :)

no wayyy. definitely stay on the staff.

sorry i didnt mean to post the same thing twice

The Yearbook position sounds like a great opportunity for you, and you seem to be very interested in it. You already have a foreign language, so unless you are very interested in Latin (more so than the Yearbook) I think the Yearbook would be a better choice, given your interest (and qualifications - the teacher/sponsor must have thought you would do well if they chose you). There will be plenty of opportunities to pick up foreign language in the future. (:

If you are already going to do the language in addition to being on the staff, I say stay on the staff. After all, it sounds like you deserve it. If it's not going to be too stressful for you, I say you should do what your heart tells you to do. I am also going to be on the school newspaper next year (fellow current freshman).
