Need help on colleges

NY College section doesn't usually get many answers so I am hoping to maybe get some answers on here.

So here is my situation, I want to go away to college I live 1 hour away from NYC.
However, I don't want to go very far, just far enough 2 hour cap actually (for convenience purposes). The thing is that I cannot apply to CUNY schools because they are all commuter campuses which do not guarantee housing. I have looked at 5 school and the only schools I am somewhat interested in are SUNY Oneonta, Pace University and the Sage Colleges (Have yet to see this one but I have received a scholarship from them.)

I plan to look at St. Francis and LIU
St Rose, and City College as well as SUNY New Paltz are out of the question

Can anyone recommend school that are within 1 hour south of the city and 2 hours north?

Also a question about long island. I have heard many things in regards to long island not being very tolerant towards minorities, which would be a HUGE problem for me. If I am wrong please tell me so and recommend schools there as well.

Thank you very much.

Jazzi, without scores I’m unsure if it’s a fit but we were really impressed by Delaware. There’s an Amtrack station on the campus and they indicated trips to NYC were both quick and frequently enjoyed by students. Not too pricey out of state and a ton of options as far as majors. I gathered a lot of kids from NY attend.

Is Stony Brook close enough? It is such a large school, I can’t imagine minorities having a problem there.
