Need help on making a life decision

I just finished my sophmore year of college at Binghamton University. My goal is to get into NYU Law school. I have a 3.5 gpa and currently have 73 credits. My dilemma is whether or not I should transfer into NYU to finish my undergraduate career.Besides the fact I want to go there as a graduate it is also closer to home and I would commute to school. The only thing is I can only transfer in 64 credits and its too late to apply for the fall term so I would have to wait till the spring. But due to my credits it wouldnt make sense to go back to Bing in the fall because i already have over 64 credits, so i would basically take a term off waiting to go to NYU in the spring if I choose to leave BING. So my dilemma is weather to stay or go, Ultimately I must make my own decision but any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike

I would say to stay at the University you’re in now. First off there’s the issue of credits, where you already have more than you can transfer. If you were to take the Fall Semester off since theres no point in taking more classes when you can’t transfer them I’m not sure if NYU would look favorably upon that. If you were to take classes in the Fall at your current University and then transfer in teh spring I would see it as a huge waste of time and money. + with having to adapt to the new “culture” of a University where you really don’t know anyone can be hard, especially in your third year in when the difficulty really starts to build up as you delve deeper into your major. Just my two cents.

3.5 GPA at a SUNY =/= acceptance at NYU Law.

Unless you had some amazing hook, had a perfect LSAT, or if you were Chuck Norris’s son.

well first off I have 2 years to raise GPA, second NYU Law generally 3.56 and up and lastly Binghamton ain’t your normal SUNY and Im not Chuck Norris’s son, Im Bruce Lee’s (Pwned)

I understand your desire to transfer, but I wouldn’t wait 6 months and risk your current school standing for a chance at NYU. NYU is crazy hard for anyone to get into, and I wouldn’t take a gamble like that. What if you didn’t get in? You’d have wasted 6 months, and be really upset. If you can stand it, stay at your current school or find a school that will let you transfer in more credits and try to finish it up. Some SUNY campuses allow a LOT of transfer credits (the most I found was up to around 90 credits).

I would be worried if I were you.

~3.6 don’t cut it for (a good) law school unless you have a kickass LSAT score; and when I say that, I mean a +175.

good luck
