need help regarding blue book writing qns...

hi can someone kindly enlighten me on the following qns in the blue book practice test #1?

writing (section 7) page 417

qn 28: Quick to take advantage of Melanie Johnson's preoccupation in the history of the Johnson family, the genealogist proposed investigating that history - for a large fee. ("preoccupation in" is wrong... why?)

qn 29: Contrasting with most other fifteenth-century rulers, Portuguese kings could count on the support of the aristocracy in any overseas ventures. ("Contrasting with" is wrong... why?)

"Preoccupation in" suggests that the preoccupation is part of the history of the Johnson family. "Preoccupation with" is more appropriate.
Q29 looks like a tense agreement problem. "Contrasting" is present tense; "could count" is past tense. "Unlike" would be better than "contrasting with."

Same answers as vadad.. see this old thread (and search for more threads on these same questions)
