i really dont know if i want to go to a large or small school. I currently attend a high school with 3200 kids in it, so its bigger than a lot of small colleges. any tips or suggestions?

Visit a large school and a small school and see which one you like better.

…as if I didn’t expect to see this suggestion

Well, how was your transition from middle school to high school? I think that can help answer your question.

Also, large schools come with more opportunities to meet people and possibly larger programs, while small schools generally offer more individual attention and closer knit communities.

But yeah, I’d self-reflect and evaluate how you socialize and see which is more suited for you. Also, take into account that size can influence the strength of the programs at the school.

Do you know yet how much money you will have available to pay for college? Sometimes the financial situation ends up making the decision, and big vs. small doesn’t matter anymore.

The size of your high school isn’t especially relevant. College isn’t like high school. In high school, you arrive knowing most of the kids from middle school. At college you arrive knowing almost no one in most cases (or at a large state school, the people you do know are specks in the sea of newcomers). In high school, you tend to hang out with people you already know. In college, you and everyone else is trying to meet new people. In high school, you take classes primarily with those in your grade. In college, the classes tend to be a much greater mix of all four years, especially after the intro classes. In high school, people’s parent and siblings know each other and that creates a more ‘intense’ environment. In college, no one knows your family - just you - so they aren’t making judgements based on anything else. And in junior year, a significant part of your college class will probably decide to study abroad for at least a semester - unlike in high school where no one goes anywhere.

I mention all this because so many kids think ‘wow, this college is smaller than my high school and I’m pretty tired of everyone by senior year, so won’t I feel the same way in a small school.’ The answer is no, probably not, because the dynamics are different.
