I've recently been introduced to the concept of a multiple degree program, and although it's not a 4 year program, it's more hassle-free as well as an accelerated program in college to help you get your degree which I am really interested in. I just had a few questions I hope you guys could answer!

Does anyone have a list of of these accelerated programs which accept you into the program as an incoming college freshman, not a program where you like after the 2nd year of college but when you apply for colleges as well. I know a few, but I would like to get a few names under the belt so I can research into them more!

Is having a CompSci/MD degree reasonable? Like is it possible to be done in a 4 year period, or maybe even like a 6-7 (assuming I can make it into a BS/MD program). I'm interested in the notion of computer software, and I was hoping I could use that as a major for medical school, I know the classes don't exactly overlap, but I'd work my buttocks off.

Last question! I'm interested in a BS/MS and a MD degree, I know there are some MS/MD programs out there, and I'm interested in comp sci. Are those programs after the undergrad courses, or do you take those during the college years so it becomes like a BA/BS-MS/MD program then? On the same topic, I don't want to get this fact wrong, so I'm hoping someone could clear this up for me.
When you're in one of these accelerated programs, sure the course and rigor is more concentrated, but is it true that it's more lax at times too? Since med school applications are unneeded, and is it possible to transfer colleges during a program? Just wondering!

I would do a search in CC for BS/MD programs - this has been discussed before.
I don’t understand why you are trying to complicate things by going for a MS as well as an MD.
Yes, you can go to Med School majoring in Computer Science, you just need to fulfill the pre-reqs for med school.
Have you considered alternatives to medical school, such as biomedical engineering or bioinformatics or computational neuroscience or other emerging fields?

And to the above posters, I have made searches about BS/MD Programs, and I don’t receive many relevant topics. Most of those programs require one to apply during the second year of being IN COLLEGE. Not programs that one requires during the college application process in high school.

Also I was just making an example, in the MS/MD.

I don’t think they want to guarantee a spot in a grad program to someone just graduating high school. They want to see that the student is successful in **college **before granting them a spot in a graduate program. So I’d be surprised that what you are looking for exists, though you said in your original post you found a few.

I understand BeanTownGirl what you’re trying to say, just wondering is all. Also just to ask you my other question, do you think it’s wise to try and earn two degrees, and your undergrad while in college? (BS/MD degree) or just a simple (BA/MD) but I would major in compsci for med school.

I think you need to do more research on the combined BA/MD or BS/MD 7 year programs. First, they are EXTREMELY hard to get into.
Second, because they take 7 years rather than 8 years (for a traditional B.S. followed by medical school), there is less room in the schedule to take classes outside of those directly related to becoming a doctor. For example, Rutgers limits you to the following 6 majors:

“English, biology, chemistry, economics, psychology and history are the six possible majors at Rutgers offered to students in this program.”

So you wouldn’t be able to major in CS.

What is your ultimate goal? If you think you want to study CS, then just apply for a BS in CS. You can still take courses required for pre-med and apply to medical school as a senior.

Thank you! It seems I should conduct further research on these combined programs, and try and find one BS/MD with either e. engineering or compsci.

You may not find anyone who can answer that question for you, you may have to go to the websites of the various programs (there are lists in the other forum) and look to see what majors are allowed in the program. Also, you should read all of the “pinned” posts at the top of that forum, those contain essential info everyone should read.
In any case, make sure you don’t rely on getting into one of these programs when you apply to college (are you a senior?); you must also apply to regular BS programs in CS at schools that have good pre-med advising programs. There are very few students accepted into these programs!
