need help!!

I can't chose btween UVM Honors College and Colby College!! Heeeelp meeee puhlease!!

:-)

Similar problem with D. Oberlin or UVM Honors. Obviously, one is a lot less money, even being out of state; and, we haven't yet gotten the financial package from Oberlin, though we don't expect much.

Anyone with more info on the Honors college?

Just saw your other post! You got MAJOR money at Colby! Why consider UVM at all?

Also, besides the "Honors" freshman seminar at UVM, what other Honors courses do freshmen take?

well , to me it's mroe about the school itself. I love Colby and I love UVM (my mom and dad met there and my sister attends). It's just, I'm not sure whether I DEFINATELY coudl get a better education at Colby or if I coudl get the same education at both as long as I took full advantage of it. You know? Congrats to your D!! I wish her the best of luck and may God bless your decisions :-D.

Werd, is your sister in the Honors College? We really would like more info about it! Thanks, Judy

nope, I'm sorry, my sister is a senior in the regular ol' UVM college. But she loves it! :-) I've got some threads going in the Bowdoin and Middlebury forums titled "Torn," where some people are giving me some valuable input on the topic-- be sure to check them out! Also, the Colby Admitted Students forum offers some, and I stress SOME, help on the matter.

Werd--identical situation to my daughter's. She's going with Colby. They were a lot better on the $ and we think it's a better school, although UVM looks good as well. Her heart was really in it for Colby and they came thru. Your choice may depend on majors, tho. Probably UVM is better for agricultural majors.

I imagine that's true, but I'm most likley going to be studying Biology with a focus in Neuroscience... do you, ColbyParent, have any idea how good their neuroscience or biology departments are? I've been trying to research it, but I can't really find much on the quality. Thanks! :-)

My daughter's high school biology teacher highly recommended Colby to her for biology. My daughter's research paper with this teacher was on the immunization systems in fetuses.
When do you need to decide? Is it May 1st?

May 1st for UVM and May 2nd for Colby (strange, eah?), lol. I think, though, that I will end up chosing Colby for a few reasons. One, the tight-knit community feeling. Two, the gorgeous campus (not the Burlington isn't gorgeous-- i absolutely love the surrounding mountains). Three, everyone there is brilliant: scintillating, intellectual coversation would not be hard to find (as is evident in the Colby forum ,lol). GREAT food (apparently, :-)). HIGH-quality professors. More prestige with the college name for if I decide to transfer or, if I don't transfer, when I'm looking into Med School (though it's more the underlying basis of this prestige that attracts me). Don't get me wrong though, UVM is building more of a name for itself, not to mention it is pretty good at kidding kids into graduate/med-school and it has its OWN med-school-- where kids can probably work with graduates in some cases (not sure on that one though).

I do think these are all attainable with the new Honors College at UVM, however, I think Colby, with the smaller campus, smaller class-size ratio, family-type community is more of a match for me.

But who knows. We'll see what my final decision is, :-).

okie dokie, it's final, class of '09 at Colby :-D. Good luck and God speed to all you Vermonter's and undecided students and parents!!
