Need helps again!

at first, I'm pretty sure I will end up going to URochester. But then, I got the admission from Mount Holyoke College. I have no problem going to either all-girls college or coed school. And, I know Mt. Holyoke is an excellent school as well.

I want to major in Chemistry (Pre-med track).

Any comments are welcomed!

I have a cousin who went to URochester who was also on the pre-med track.. so this may be some info. that you already know about the school.
Anyways what I can tell you is, URochester undergrads/grads can participate in programs such as the Rochester Early Medical Scholars. He told me it is a very science -oriented enviornment and he found it very rewarding. He discribed it as "pretty competitive" and most people are serious about their work. He was able to work one on one w/ a professor as he developed a specialized field of research for his chem. major. He said his chem. profs. were very willing to set up appointments and Urochester was a great city for interning at near by medical centers and gaining first hand/ real world experience.

I don't know how Mount Holyoke's pre-med track is... I know that South Hadley is a very quiet and isolated town.(prob. not much of an oportunity for "medical endevors") Urochester would definately offer better pre-med opportunities because of its key location and strong chem. professors and program offerings.

Yes, the premedical curriculum at UR is really really good. not sure but i saw that in the undergrad or grad school that in terms of clinical experience, that it's ranked really really high, like top 5. and it ranks high in research as well however after schools like hopkins. but clinically, it beats hopkins and many other schools. and, u should come to UR...u never know what kinda guy you'll meet--hint hint, me! lol...

Rankings (Usnews 2007)
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/grad/rankings/rankindex_brief.php

Top Medical Schools - Primary Care (clinical)
21. University of Rochester (NY)
Above Johns Hopkins, UCLA, Harvard, UChicago
Below UPenn, Dartmouth, Brown, Duke

Top Medical Schools - Research
36. University of Rochester (NY)
Above Brown, Tufts, Einstein(Yeshiva)
Below Alot of schools xD

May I remind you that the med school is a very bad indicator of how good the undergrad is at UofR - they're two completely different schools so its a bad comparison to use UofR's Medical School rankings to judge the Undergrad College.

2007? how'd u get hold of these rankings?and i did say undergrad OR grad school...yeah, i know wat ur saying, i was just putting in info about UR in general. i think someone who knows about mount holyoke college and UR both would have a good comparison...is that college on CC?

you mean mount holyoke???

you can find it from Top Liberal Arts Colleges. I did post the same thread on their forum, but nobody answers!

Anyway, URochester seems a better place for Chem. =/

yeah, if you see the other thread, for maths and sciences, UR supercedes many others. haha, no one answered? lol. seems like an isolated place to be where kids don't do anything...lol no offense to the school. so yeah, go for UR.

Mount Holyoke is the oldest female liberal arts college in the US and is a member of the SEVEN SISTERS (similar to the ivy league - except for female Liberal colleges).

The seven sisters is a group of VERY competitive colleges...here is the list of members:

* 1837: Mount Holyoke Female Seminary, South Hadley, Massachusetts. It became Mount Holyoke College in 1888.
* 1861: Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, New York. It is now coeducational.
* 1870: Wellesley College, Wellesley, Massachusetts .
* 1871: Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts.
* 1879: Radcliffe College, Cambridge, Massachusetts. It has since been merged into Harvard College.
* 1885: Bryn Mawr College, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.
* 1889: Barnard College, New York, New York. Since 1900 it has been closely associated with Columbia University.

i know barnard, bryn mawr, vassar, smith and wellesly but mt. holyoke is a new name for me. not bad not bad....id say the decision is tough - the ppl who go to these schools rnt very big on CC so its bad to judge em based on the empty threads here.

I myself am regretting not applying to Vassar...

oh really...didn't know this stuff...interesting...but in terms of science-related studiess, which would probably be better?

But as far as I know, there're only 7 female colleges in the country, right?

doubt it smartkid, there r most definitely more.

barnard vassar and smith are top top top colleges - do not doubt their power lol. Barnard is practically aka Female Columbia.

As for science-related studies, these schools turn out alot of science PhDs for their size, Oberlin being the liberal arts college that tops em all, but its not one of the seven sisters.

go to Urochester, there are more opportunites for a greater experience, and more chances to meet people. MHC is too enclosed and sheltered

no offense! Paris, you said that because you were waitlisted, and wanted me to give you my spot?
