need ideas and locations for volunteer work so I can transfer to UCLA

Hi

I'm an engineering student in my first year at Pasadena City College and looking to transfer to UCLA in about two years from now. I've taken only 5 classes (they don't give much priority to new students), but I'm doing good so far. Anyway, I'm trying to get some ideas on where to do some volunteer work because I have done close to zero extracurricular activities. I've tried looking for jobs for the last year or so but have not gotten anything yet.

Thanks!

hey,

i came from pcc too and have transferred to ucla and will be starting in fall. I wouldnt worry too much about the extra curriculars, try to find good ones. But, if u cant, dont sweat it. most important is gpa, major gpa, personal statement, and major prep classes. Knock these out and the rest will take care of itself.

Go Join AGS

Yeah, AGS, PTK… in AGS, you’re required to do community service and PTK gives you opportunities for volunteer work as well. Since you’re in Pasadena, there should be a number of places to do volunteer work. You’re close enough to Downtown LA that you could find a soup kitchen… call 'em up and say you wanna come in to volunteer.

You could work at the tutoring center at your school if they have one.

I’m probably gonna join AGS this fall. Didn’t have enough units to qualify last semester. I guess for volunteer work I’ll look up some food shelter or something.

^ That seems really nice. Being in Argentina for a month is the kind of thing I’d check off my list.

Shame I could never afford it as a student. Doubt many of us can.
