I have a general idea of what to major in but I am still undecided; advice/perspectives?

I would love to teach and tutor children from Kinder through 12, but I don't know what I should major in so that I have that liberty. In other words, I don't want my major to confine me.

I especially like to tutor in math and science, but I don't know if I should major in math or science JUST to teach, you know what I mean. I have heard that STEM is a tough discipline and I am not sure if majoring in it to teach is a wise idea.

Then again, I enjoy teaching techniques about English and helping those who struggle in it. I also like translating and Journalism (high school journalism, I am not sure how much it differs from professional Journalism).

I also want to get a stable job after I graduate, so what do you guys advice?

If you want to teach a math or science subject at high school levels, it would be helpful to major in that subject in college.

My daughter wants to be a high school Math teacher and she majored in Math and is getting a Masters in Secondary Math Education. If you major in math and don’t like teaching, then you have many options for jobs.

By majoring in the subject, you are not limited to teaching, but are giving yourself a great foundation if you do decide to teach.

No matter what you major in, you will have to take some Math class and some Science class. Take Calculus (or whatever) in college and see how that goes. Take a science class and see how that goes. Take a literature class and see how that goes. Which ever one interests you the most continue on with.

@bopper How tough was the math major for your daughter? Also is the masters in secondary math education focused more on the teaching angle of math?

BTW, what else can I do with a math, science, or English major?

And would it be possible to major in science or math and double major or minor in English?
