Need parental advice on communications major...PLEASE!!

I second Carolyn's suggestion of also looking at schools with straight English/journalism. There is a fairly good chance that you'll change your major (most everyone does - you could be the rare exception), and English/journalism + media arts or the like might be the same coursework that you would get with a communications major.

Re: the comments in the original post... I can see how they would be offensive. I, for one, do think there is a difference between female Jewish students and any woman who calls herself "princess." The latter is a creature I avoid on principle, regardless of ethnic affiliation.

If you are worried about the "princess" population, avoid schools in which high numbers of students are not on financial aid. Generally, you get a different student body at very wealthy schools, and it can be a shock if you were brought up having summer jobs instead of your parent's credit card. Just avoid attaching any ethnicity to that, please. (Trying to stop, not to start, a war. :) )

CityGal55 - I sent you a PM with a suggestion.

Aries, it is so nice to have you posting again. I have missed your common sense and insights.

Thank you, Carolyn! :)

I'm usually down in the law school forum.

Ah, I thought you were just down in the law school library studying these days. :)

University of Maryland has a very strong commuications program as does its sister school ( which is easier to get into) Towson University.

School's been out for a while - but starts again in August. So I'll disappear for a while and resurface in December.
