Hello,
Early in research stage, looking to start a list of great schools that fit the criteria below. Want to help?
Ideal school:
Medium size D3 with men’s XC/track, and lots of science options.
Kid is currently a junior in public HS with straight a’s, some AP courses and a 34 on ACT.
5K pace 17:54, so not going to get athletic scholarships, but likely could walk on to a XC team(right?) Likes science but not ready to choose a career.
some NJAC schools in NJ have some real good track programs, Education wise he’s probably over qualified. Good Luck, as I told my oldest son when he was looking at colleges for baseball, make sure you love the college and could see yourself there if you could never play ball again.
Here are some others:
Wesleyan University
University of Chicago (very good science program)
Brandeis University
MIT (obviously extremely selective)
Tufts University (very good science program)
Johns Hopkins (very good science program)
Baruch College
lots of SUNY schools
Vassar College
Skidmore
NYU
Brooklyn College
Amherst - fabulous new science center and focus
Williams - new science center going up
Conn College - fairly strong in the sciences
Muhlenberg - could be a safety w/ good sciences
My wife graduated with a degree in Chemistry from CMU and my roommate was a state XC medalist who was on the track/XC team there. I believe they still have both.
