Hey, so I am a fairly high achieving student (3.7 GPA, 6 APs, 1450/2110 Sat, 790 MathII, 690 Lit), yet I was rejected from my top two choices (USC and Penn). I would like to try to get into these schools next year as a business major. My question is would I have a higher chance of success by enrolling in a community college or 4 year university? I got into UMD Honors with a partial scholarship, as well as Villanova honors with a partial scholarship, so I am considering those two schools as well as the local community college and moving to California to attend Santa Monica CC. My worry is that I could much easily attain a 4.0 at community college rather than either of the honors program. If anyone has any advice on how to increase my transfer chances, it would be greatly appreciated, and yes, I am dead-set on one of the two schools (I know this isn't a good thing)

Both gpa and the college you attend will be factors when you apply for a transfer.

so then say a 3.7-8 at a school like 'nova or umd honors will look more impressive than a 4.0 at a CC?

Why would you move just to go to Santa Monica CC?

living in California has always been a dream of mine, and I have a brother that I could move in with as well as several potential employment opportunities…and USC has an articulation agreement in place with Santa Monica

What I was trying to say is that since they both are taken into account, it’s very difficult, if not impossible, to predict which scenario is ‘better’.

if want USC, go to a california CC (so santa Monica would be great), it is much easier to get accepted there, and if you get a 4.0 you are basically in.

for penn, im not too sure about, but then again, you have to see whats a better school for you? USC or Upenn?

USC=CCC
Upenn= go to a 4 year then transfer

SC is definitely my number 1 choice…so the Cali CC preference isn’t just a myth then?

noooo, with the ccc, they tell you what exact classes to take (like you said, the articulation agreement) and the higher the GPA, the better. I know when I came out of hs, they told me if I got a 4.0 I was guaranteed acceptance but I had way below that and screwed myself over

so yeah if USC is your top choice and you know you can get a 4.0 or a high gpa (even after 1 year), then smcc is a great choice.
