Need some advices to choose an engineering major.

Hi everybody. I'm new on CC and I need some advices for the choice of my major. I am an international student and I actually finished my first college semester without any issue. I wanted originally to graduate in architecture, but due to the bad reviews I read and heard about it, I chose the Civil Engineering major which seemed to be much more related to it. I don't have any problem with any course, and If I meet any, I'll be just fine by putting some efforts in it. The problem is that now, I've been told that the Civil engineering domain is not as good as mechanical engineering and is slightly less paid. Just to help you give me some advices, I really enjoy big infrastructures, bridges, and buildings (that's why I wanted to do architecture and then wanted to do Civil engineering) but I also like creating (at least, trying) devices and build complex systems from scratches. I also know a little bit about CAD-software since my father was an architect. I don't have any problem with working outside or behind a desk. All that matters is which one would be more interesting and assure a decent (or pretty good) living. That's the reason why I wanted opinions from engineers in these fields to help me make a decision before I end not knowing what I really want for my future.
Thank you already for your help and excuse me for my possible mistakes since I natively speak french. :)

Bon jour! I’d say switching from Architecture to Civ Eng was a smart move. Architecture is a very narrow field and i think you’ll have much better prospects as a CE. I think most ppl here will tell you the difference in salaries between CE and ME is very small in the US. Not sure if you intend to work in the US or go back to your country. (i’m assuming it’s France?) I know in the US at least you need a masters in structural engineering to build large scale buildings and probably bridges and such. Other then managing your expectations seems like you’ll do fine in CE.
