Need some clarification with switching between majors.

Hi I have been accepted to UCSD as an environmental systems major. But I realized only recently that I really want to study mechanical engineering. I realized that ME is an impacted major at UCSD but I've read in other posts that you can switch your major to an impacted major at SD after your first year.

So I was thinking if I should just switch my major to Undeclared and then try to switch to engineering or just stay with my major for now and then try to switch after my first year..

Oh and I also got into UCI for engineering but SD's engineering is much better so I'm debating about these two schools..

And I only have around 2 weeks to make a choice.. so could anyone answer either/both of my concerns.. Really anything will help.

Thanks in advance

I wouldn’t switch to undeclared and then to Mechanical engineering at UCSD, it seems kind of redundant. If you like UCSD then take a few intro classes to see how you do. UCI is also good for mechanical engineering, my brother got a master degree there for Mechanical Engineering. You should not be too concerned about rankings, they reasonably within the ballpark.

It shouldn’t matter if you stay in Environmental Engineering or switch to Undeclared. It doesn’t hurt to check with academic advising if you end up going there though.
