Need some help and guidance....

I am currently trying to get back into school to get my BA. Personally, I need advice and would like help in knowing if I’m on the right path. I know you guys aren’t guiding counselors, but I would really appreciate your input.

I received my associate degree in Psychology from University of Phoenix online. (BIG mistake) Obviously, I no longer wish to further my education there for financial reasons. As I mention I need help in choosing a BA program that is not so expensive and is accredited. I want to study criminal justice and criminology so I can pursue a career in corrections, courts, legal offices, and or probation offices.

If I can find an online program, it be pretty great!

Your advice with be GREATY appreciated.
Sincerely,
Lost in Life.

You could try going to a cc.

What state are you in? Do you qualify for Pell or any state grants? Check community colleges and any 4-year schools within commuting distance of your house. CC’s often times have articulation agreements with 4-year colleges which makes transferring easier.

OK, so here’s your problem as I see it:

You have an Associate’s, and naturally you would like those credits to transfer to be used towards your BA. But, because they’re from UoP, you’re looking for a school where you can major in Criminal Justice, but not lose those first 60 credits. Am I pretty close??

The problem seems to be accreditation: http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/news/2013/07/10/university-of-phoenix-keeps.html

I don’t know which colleges to recommend; others here are far better versed in that than I am. But I would think that your #1 (OK, or 2 or 3) priority should be ensuring that you get credit for those classes. I know that when I transferred from CC to a local university, my entire AS degree transferred. So the fact that you did get your Associate’s should be of tremendous help here.

I would imagine that a Criminal Justice degree would require a number of Psych credits, as well as the general ed courses you needed for that Associate’s, so you don’t want all that hard work ( and money) to go to waste.
