Both passages express the view that science fiction is....
A. predictably insightful
B. chillingly realistic
C. artictiscally pleasing
D. socially useful
E. widely understood

I'm taking the SAT in March which is just a week away and I really need to get my score up so any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Both passages indicate that science fiction, despite its demerits, is socially useful:

Passage 1 - “Science fiction’s most important use, I submit, is as a means of dramatizing social inquiry, of providing a fictional mode in which cultural tendencies can be isolated and judged.”

Passage 2 - “The genre serves as a link between the culture of the humanities and arts on the one hand, and of science and technology on the other.”

Even if you don’t really understand what the above quotes are really saying (the first one is a bit confusing), you can rule out the others. Neither talks about predictability, so A is out. Both argue that sci-fi is unrealistic, so B is out. Neither talk about science fiction on an aesthetic level, so C is out. And neither makes any mention of it being widely understood, so E is wrong.

We seem to be on the same schedule - I just finished taking this test :)

See I narrowed the choices down to either A or D. And I ended up choosing A because I thought that both passages talk about how science fiction can be insightful since sci-fi can be seen as having more to it than just the fictional part of it?

There may be some truth to that - but don’t forget about the adverbial modifiers. While science fiction may be insightful, nothing says that it’s predictably insightful. It’s easy to get caught up with the adjectives and forget about the adverbs modifying them, so watch out for that.

I just graded the test and got a 2400 If only I manage to pull that off again 7 days from now…

Dang your a beast! On my last test I just got a 2200 But then again, I did a writing section at like 12:30 in the morning and missed like 7 questions so that probably dragged my score down…

Any advice on how I can boost up or maximize my score in the next 7 days?

For me, all I’ve done is the BB tests, along with a few math worksheets. I don’t really even do much with the BB tests; I just briefly review the answers I get wrong, but somehow my score keeps going up. My score progression has been 2260, 2240, 2300, 2300, 2290, 2400. I think for me it’s mostly just been a matter of getting used to the question types and developing my intuition; sometimes I just “know” one answer is better than another and I usually turn out to be right.

So I guess I don’t really have much advice, just keep practicing I guess.

Which section do you struggle the most with?

I have the hardest time with CR… its all that vocab and “reading in between the lines” nonsense…
Writing isn’t too bad for me and math is my strongest where I usually only miss only one or get them all right.
