Need some help - in a dilemma

Hey guys,

I am currently a rising senior who will be transferring to my local public high school. During my junior year, I took AP English Literature and AP Physics 1. My old school did not offer AP English Language, and juniors took AP English Lit.

At this new school, I just had a talk with the assistant principal. He says that I have the option to take AP English Language, but does not recommend it because I would be in a class full of juniors. Since I cannot take AP English literature again, my other option would be to take regular english. Also, he recommends that I take AP Physics 2, but Ive already taken AP Physics 1.

I am fine taking AP English Language with juniors and “retaking” Ap Physics, but Im not sure how this will look to colleges… My other options would be to take the regular english and maybe AP environmental science (I hate bio and chem, and the new school doesnt offer Physics C)

tl;dr: im transferring schools senior year and classes overlap. how do colleges view this?

Colleges are super understanding about this kind of stuff. You are also in Senior year so they don’t care all that much. Go and take the AP classes, and if anything, enjoy how easy it’ll be for you the second time around.

Don’t stress too much about what colleges will think, they tend to be really good about this kind of stuff.

I don’t think there would be any problems with you taking AP lit before lang in terms of how colleges see it. And taking another AP Physics wouldn’t be a problem especially if you want to major in it because it shows a lot of interest and capability in the subject (also Physics 2 would probably seem more impressive since Enviro is seen as an easy AP). Good luck, and enjoy being the cool senior to those little junior kiddos.

AP Physics 2 covers different material than Physics 1, so that sequence is fine. And every now and then I read a thread where someone takes AP Lang after Lit, because that’s how their school does it. I think you’re good!

And I don’t think being in a class with juniors is a big deal at all.

I would go ahead and take AP Lang (the sequence at my D’s high school is Lit junior year, Lang senior year) and AP Physics 2.

Being in a class with Juniors is not a big deal, you can keep that a secret that your a senior from other students. I ended up a year behind in high school because I dropped out and went back and was the same grade as my other classmates in the class but was a year older than the other classmates and kept it a secret. I would go with AP Physics 2 because it’ll look a lot more impressive on your transcript than AP Environmental Science. What are you gonna take for math?

Thanks for the replies! Currently my schedule looks like this.

AP Gov/Econ
AP Spanish 4
AP Calc BC
AP English Lang OR senior reg english
AP Physics 2 OR AP Environmental Science
AP European History OR AP Psychology

I’ll probably just take the English Lang with the juniors, but I’m still unsure about Physics 2.

Physics 1 AP was hard for me, as I got a B- first Semester but clutched an A- second semester. I’m not trying to major in physics, I’m going into business.

Is Physics 2 AP the same thing as Physics 1? I heard they are extremely similar, and then the next level up is Physics C.

Also, at this new school, AP Physics 1 is not offered, it just goes reg to Physics 2 AP. At my old school it went reg to Physics 1 to Physics C. Seeing that you don’t have to take Physics reg to go to Physics 2, it seems like the same requirements as Physics 1 at my old school. I just don’t want colleges to see that I’m repeating the same curriculum of physics especially since I got a 2 on the AP test…

Ok go with AP Environmental Science then. Just curious, Is AP Gov/Econ one course or are they seperate one semester clssses?

No AP Physics 1 and 2 cover different topics.

Will it be a little hard to take Physics 2 with my current schedule then?

Last year I took the following:

AP Comp Sci A
AP English Literature
AP Physics 1
Pre Calc Honors
US History
Spanish III
Religion (required at my old catholic high school)

Of these classes I managed to get 1 B each semester. First Semester in physics, second semester in history.

I would like to keep this same unweighted with my senior schedule (atleast during first semester)

Maybe take AP Psych not AP Euro vecuae it’s a little easier. I would keep AP Physics unless you don’t like physics.

I’ve decided to take AP Euro and AP Environmental reason being because I have yet to take an AP History (didn’t take WHAP or APUSH) and didn’t want to do Euro and Physics.

Thanks for the help

Ok sounds good!

enjoy AP Environmental Science. It seems like a fun class I wish I had the opportunity to take in high school.

good luck!! i’m sure you’ll do great!!
