What is your career goal? Perhaps folks can better help you with that information. I say this because careers sometimes do not necessarily require a specific major.
The following UC CS majors do not require physics:
- UCB L&S CS (BA)
- UCI CS
- UCSC CS (BA or BS)
The following UC CS majors require non-CS science, but not necessarily physics:
- UCD L&S CS (requires biology, chemistry, or physics)
- UCSD CS (various options available)
That’s great research on the UC’s that don’t require physics. While UCB will be a big reach, UCI and UCD are as reasonable as any others on your current list. UCI may not feel much different than SJ, but UC Davis and UCSC are definitely not commuter schools. Additionally:
UC Davis Computational Linguistics.

both should have research opportunities in your chosen area.
Have you looked at the the Linguistics+CS major at UCLA? Linguistics and Computer Science BA It’s in Letters & Science (unlike straight-CS which is in the engineering school) and I don’t see anything about a physics requirement in the transfer info.
