Hey, so I’m currently in last year of my O’level which means I’m about to finish my highschool in this year, But here in Pakistan high school is completed in 11 grade whilst High school in US is completed in 12 grade.
I’m US citizen but currently studying in Pakistan so will not have a lot of problem studying in US.
I was think of doing SATs after completing my O’levels but Olevels finishes at 11th grade and then you get promoted to college here in Pakistan but would I still have to do 12th grade in US or I can just apply for college after finishing 11th grade and giving SATs in Pakistan.?
Some US colleges and universities will admit students with O levels. Some expect A levels. To get good advice, contact the EducationUSA Advising Center that is closest to where you live. There are several in Pakistan. I think the main website is educationusa.state.gov but I might be wrong about that, so Google it. The counselors at EducationUSA are the experts on your situation. There are a lot of US citizens in Pakistan, so I am sure the counselors will be able to help you out.
All that said, how old are you? Do you have family or friends here that you could live with for a year? It might be worth it to you to move to the US and finish high school here. That would give you a chance to perfect your English, get good help with college applications, and have more time to sort outyour best testing options amoung the TOEFL, ACT, and SAT.
O’levels are actually considered equivalent to 10th grade (year 11), so since you’re a citizen, if you have family in the US, see if you could live with them for two years and enroll on a local public school which would allow you to register in the 11th grade and prepare for university admissions. In addition, this would allow you to graduate from a state high school and thus be considered instate for admission and tuition purpose which makes a HUGE difference.
Some universities will allow you to apply with O’levels but you won’t be considered instate anywhere and they may be unaffordable. These universities aren’t those with financial aid.
Another possibility is for you to stay two more years in Pakistan and prepare A’levels but I believe that 2 years in a US highschool would prepare you for a US college better and would have other advantages for you.
(Pakistani colleges are similar to sixth form colleges preparing for A Levels and don’t mean 'college ’ like in the US, where ‘college’ can be a synonym for university. )
