Need suggestions for

Hi! I'm from Ohio and I'm having a hard time finding schools. I really want to go to New York City to study but money is a HUGE issue for me. My family has a very low income. I'm going to be studying political science, I plan on going to law school after. Anyone have any suggestions for schools that would be good for my major AND I would get good financial aid? I would even take suggestions that were outside of New York, I just am having an issue finding schools.

My stats:
Last year I had a 3.43 unweighted GPA and a 3.73 weighted GPA. It should be going up this year due to my ap courses.
I have taken mostly honors classes and a few regular classes. Including this year,
I will have taken 6 AP Courses.

This year I am taking AP physics, AP psychology, and AP English literature. I have also taken AP Gov, AP English Comp, and AP US History. I also have taken 3 years of French and four years of art.

I have a 27 act composite score. I plan to retake in October. I haven't taken the SAT.

I am president of student council and co-president of art club. I'm also involved in leadership interact club, mock trial, model un, and Etc. I'm involved in over 15 clubs, I like to stay involved. I also volunteer outside of school with the leadership interact club or on my own at the humane society.
I also have been nominated for the senate youth program and was a delegate for Buckeye Girls State this past summer.

I am half Korean, my mom is adopted from there. My father is white. My parents are divorced. I come from a very low income
family. I am also Catholic.

New York City and political science just don’t go together… why don’t you look at schools in the DC area instead? Better internship opportunities, likely better course selection.

Are both your parents low income? Has either remarried? Many schools take the income & assets of both parents AND their new spouses into account, which can hurt your chances for need based aid.

I see nothing wrong with NYC and political science major. You can try Fordham and see if you get enough aid. DC is also a fine place and you can look into GW, American and Catholic University. Find some financial safety schools as well and research your in-state public options.

I have looked at the DC area and I really like American & GW. It’s unfortunately a matter of being able to get in/pay for it.

Yes, both my parents income is low. Neither has remarried, but my dad has a girlfriend. My problem is that my father pays for NOTHING. He refuses to help me out with even my high school fees. I am really worried that I will have to put down his income and it’s frustrating because I get none of his money…

I am VERY interested in Fordham and have actually just scheduled my visit there in October, when I will be in New York visiting my Aunt. What do you mean by some financial safety schools?

Yes, you will have to put down his income and assets at any college that requires the CSS profile (which is a lot of schools). A financial safety is one you can afford for sure. Often they are in-state schools where costs are lower. Some students do two years at a community college and then transfer to a four year college after that if they have serious financial constraints.
