Need suggestions on a good laptop?

I'm currently looking a for a high-end laptop mostly for programming though. I would like to once in a while play a game on it also, like maybe Starcraft. I've looked through many and Asus and MSI look very good to me. I am open to all laptops.

What I would prefer:
RAM: 5GB or above
HDD: 500GB or above
Display: Higher end. 1600 x 900 - 1920 x 1200 The higher the better.
Graphics: I'm sort of behind on graphics, but a good Nvidia should do the trick. Run games smoothly.
CPU Speed: At least 2.3 Ghz or above.
Etc: Multiple USB ports, decent sound quality, battery life - 3 or more hours,

And what's your opinion on size? I think 13" -15" is good, does anyone have portability issues? I mean that as the laptop is just too big, etc.

And my price range is up to $1,000.

Thanks for looking, I really appreciate the help.

Get the dv6. I got mine today so far it great.

You can get it as low as 938 or so, with a graphic card and 1080p upgrade.

2 Comes with 6GB of ram.

The hard drive I got was 640 GB, I believe. The standard drive is 750 GB at 5400 rpm. I decided to get a smaller drive at 7200 rpm. it didn’t cost a penny.

It comes with radeon 6770. If it means anything it score a 5.9 on the windows index.

It has a 1080p screen upgrade, get it. I been using it all day and it looks great. The screen is 15.6 inches, not to big and not too small.

It comes with usb 2.0 and 3.0. A hdmi out thingy. Microphone jack and two head phone jacks.

The icing on the cake? Beats audio and a free blu-ray player

It only 2.0 ghz. But it is a freaken i7 quad core proccessor, it still a beast of laptop proccessor. I doubt it will hinder you in anyway, there are upgrades, but I don’t think the benifits are worth it.

^ the window index score is set by the lowest subscore, which is probably your hdd. I have the dv6t to, and the subscore for graphics was 6.9 for me, I have the 1 gb 6770. And, you can upgrade the processor to the i7-2720 at 2.2 ghz at a decent price. Plus HP most likely have a 30% off coupon floating around somewhere.

Sleven is right just go to logicbuy.com or search hp coupons in google. You should find a 30% off coupon on pavillion laptops

I was wondering why your subscore for graphics was 6.9, when mine was 6.6. Then I remember that there are switchable graphics on the system. For the intel graphics the score is 6.6. If you switch into the ati card the score jumps to 6.9.

Get this

Do NOT get an HP.

There seems to be a problem with the current generation of laptops, especially ones running the 6XXX level AMD cards.
There’s a driver issue that is kinda glitchy with OpenGL programs, so you won’t be able to take advantage of your graphics card–you’ll be stuck using integrated graphics.
Plus, graphics switching is more of a hassle when you use AMD, as it’s not really automatic.

The Asus N53SN is a great choice all around. Trust me.
